Mine spammers

Listen all you (mostly fed) mine spammers, please stop. Just stop. I know somehow youve convinced yourself that the massive spam distracts people or you have some super tactic for using mines..but your wrong.

Mines are just clutter. I dont think ive ever seen them employed in anything approaching a useful manner, last night I was even in a situation of having to chase a mine spammer around and he got to have that nirvana moment of dumping mines on me over and over again, and it didnt save him or even seriously injure me, they basically bounced off my shields. Mines are useless. Seriously find something useful for that weapons slot. Another torpedo, more beams, a turret, some guy throwing lettuce at pursuing Klings, almost anything you can imagine would be better than mines.

And no dont just stop because it annoys me when I play my Kling and have to look at all your usless spam (which doesnt stop us from killing you) but more importantly because when I play my fed, I want to win and you wasting a weapons slot makes that more difficult.

Mines are great, if utilized well. YOu just need to combine them with other skills to suplement your overall strategy. Beside, if they are so bad, why are you QQing about them on forums ? seems kinda confusing to me.

Mines are useless in useless hands or with bad aproach only. If you think a turret is better than mine launcher with dispersal pattern, you are mistaken.

Beside, you cant really spam them, as 2 launchers is max you can utilize. And dispersal patterns are on 45s cooldown, while normal drops from 12-16s.

I dont really see how you could be confused if you read my post. Im complaining because as a Klingon they are annoying useless clutter, and as a fed because they weaken the whole team because they are useless.

I have read all kinds of "ooh i have this great mine tactic" posts but ive never seen it in practice. If someone has a video of how mines can actually be useful great post it, prove me wrong I dont claim to be some unbearably awesome player..but ive never seen mines make a positive significant contribution in PvP.

hmmm the choice between a pea shooter or
8 mines that can do 1k each on exposed hull
Ill go with the possibility of 8k on hull thank you
toss in scramble sensors II followed with jam sensors combined with massive mines makes for some fun

Because you have bad experience / no skill with mines, it doesnt mean that they are bad...just that you suck with them...sorry :o

Leave everyone to play as they like. Mines are fine, just require timing and skill to use for greater effect.

Torpedoes are better overall, and if you must, put something that can actually do damage in the aft. I see a mine layer and think, gee, look at the exposed after...I think I will burn through that.

Mines, with the exception of something with a mez, are worthless.

You may as well mount a rubber chicken...at least the chicken would be funny.

Target subsystem shield + dispersal pattern beta = anything but useless... 16 quantum mines, 1,5k each at minimum, 2,5k with some debuffs = dead enemy. As i said, they suck if spammed without clue and in useless hands, but if played well and with right tools, are deadly. Dont consider something worthless, just because you have no skill(s) to utilize them. I also dont consider airplane useless, just because i dont know how to fly one.

But everyone is free to use what he wants. Im also not crying that turrets are useless, even if i think they are. And no need to repeat to me the usual blabla all front assault tactic, i know that hymn well.

FYI this is what one of my Fleet's Science captains was doing back in Beta. It's amazing how effective it is. (Actually you want to time the shield-drop for just after the mine dispersal, because it always takes a second or two for the mines to kick in.)

One or two of my Fleet members are currently trying out tricobalt mines with bomber strafing tactics. One of them is already having good results with heavy plasma torpedoes, will see if he tries out mines as well.

I must admit that I use mines. I will also admit that those that spam mines without the skill to use them are annoying as hell. Please learn to use them or don't mount them it's that simple. I dislike the clutter on both sides and find it annoying to have the guy with standard phasers that can't do a thing to my shields spamming a trail of mines that won't do a thing to me. Those of you encouraging people to spam mines please stop it if they don't know how to use them it's just annoying.

Im using that combo in pvp since OB and as isaid, it requires skill, balls and proper timing...most people lack at least 2 out of those 3 things.

But joking aside, mines are the most misunderstood weapons in the game and wrongly labeled as useless.

Please stop telling others how they should play the game. If you dont like the mines, dont use them, but QQ about them is just stupid. If people spam mines without thoughts, they are propably easy kills, so be happy.

I think they are saying that they want people to be more effective instead of just being annoying.

Shoot scramble sensors, into the middle of the fed ball, have the rest of the team decloak behind them and watch the fun, as they try to target you but get the mines targeted instead, while you pound their ships into respawn.

And who decides whats effective and whats not ? The self-proclaimed masters of pvp ?

Personally, I think some folks use mines just to mess with tab targetting or auto-targetting since there's an extra 5-10 objects to cycle through. That's a beneficial use of it anyways, since it usually forces me to take a little extra time to target them.

Why are you being so argumentative? They have an opinion, you have yours. Relax a bit and take it for what it is.

I think that mines are really good. I have a carrier now and the one thing i miss is my mines.

One thing i would really like to do is to experiment with a mine specialist ship, using the various dispersal patterns and a couple of different mine types. I think it could be really good and would ejoy tinkerinhg with it to make the concept work for me.

i have to agree with the cheese:whine bit...

when klinks stop spamming fighters and drones in t5 to "clutter" up the field, then you may have a point of mine spamming. until then, it is a usefull tactic for reasons other then just clutter....

Beam overload + mine drop = klingon stops chasing.

That generally happens with my minefield tactics. I dont just drop mines unless in the middle of a battle i see a shield near me that's collapsed, or i'm being attacked from behind while killnig someone in front of me.

Mines also help flaring cloaked ships for targetting to, but you have to know they're nearby, and since that minimap feature was removed, its not as easy to pull off as it used to be.

tho, one can argue that mines work great in conjunction with jam sensors too, if you jam KDF sensors while they're spamming space bar (lets face it, that's ALL klingons have to do), then they switch targets to the closer mines even if they fire science team off right away. A few seconds means th difference between hull damage and restoring your shields, and i'll take that difference.

    Wasn't a feature, but a known bug.

I am not even going on with this reply since it will be nothing but flames.

I love minelayers, they're easy targets. Just get on their tail within 2km and stick to them like glue. As long as they keep moving you'll be out of range by the time the mines arm.

doesnt really work if the minelayer has beam overload and two phaser arrays pointed aft, now does it? What about a science ship with viral matrix and mines? you're just inviting yourself to die horribly that way.
