I know that someone posted a similar topic to this a while ago, but I just want to make my voice heard in regards to this: I am ready and waiting for Cryptic to pour on the goodies in the C-Store.
There are people who want more character slots (not me as I have a few), but to me, Cryptic would be sitting on a gold mine if they were to fill the C-store with cosmetic goodies for ships and crew. Am I the only one who looks at what's available in the C-store every time I log on and is dissapointed?
New uniforms and new uniform accessories (especially ones like the Kelvin-era uniforms, "future imperfect," and "yesterday's enterprise" uniforms (who didn't love those "full-collar" uniforms?), new ships and ship parts, and new weapons would be very profitable to Cryptic. It would also be nice to be able to take parts from one uniform and put them on another (like the flap from the "monster maroon" uniform and putting it on another uniform, or being able to take sleeve ranks from a TOS uniform and put them on another uniform).
As someone said before me, I am looking Cryptic in the eyes with my wallet wide open. I hope Cryptic sees that I'm not the only one and has tons of goodies waiting for us.
Does anyone know when we should expect these kinds of items?
Yeah, I mean, it doesn't even have to be big stuff at first. Of course, I would love to see new ships and bigger things later on, but even things like being able to swap parts of uniforms, or buying things Cryptic has already made (like the Borg Boff, the red matter capacitor, etc.), I would buy in a heartbeat. How about the admiral uniform (for people who are actually admirals), and abilities that are inherent to other species?
Money's waiting, Cryptic. And I'm not the only one.
I would also like to see more things added to the C-Store (and soon would be nice). I'm willing and able to wait, but it would be fun to start enjoying some of the things now. More playable races, special uniforms, various special items, more character slots, purchasable ships, purchasable titles, and so on.
Patience is a virtue - while I'm just as eager as anyone to actually see things I want to get in the C-store, I'd rather they get it out with as few bugs in the system as possible. And that they fix a few of the bugs that are already related to it (some pre-order bonuses not being applied properly).
Forcing players to pay for more than 2 characters slots ... it's just wrong.
Besides the fact how greedy it makes Cryptic look, it is bad for the game too. I would have liked to play all three classes in at least one of the factions, but couldn't. Consequentially, I play the game less.
Minimum of four slots should have been allowed in the Standard Edition.

Pssst. it's three character slots when you hit level 6 or otherwise unlock Klingons.
That, and the current story on the matter is that, due to the large amount of data stored per character (not just for the individual character, but data for every ship they currently have, and every bridge officer they currently have - up to 18 additional bits of information that need Appearance, Equipment, and in the case of officers, Skill data), they have to initially limit the number of character slots that are available. And that they are currently working on making their data storage more efficient, and when they manage to do so, they shall give out additional character slots gratis. Plus any additionals you may have bought in the interim.
Technically, I half-buy the story (in that there's a ton of TRIBBLE to store per character, but not quite enough to limit it to 3 per-account), but until we hear more from them on this matter that's all we have to go on.
Please adjust your conspiracy theories accordingly.
Please do not buy the data storage lie. It's a marketing decison. Heck, most of the posts on the forums cost more than the database footprint of a character slot.
Some people seem to forget that other games had similar limits on character slots.
SWG-> 1 per server at launch, 1 extra with Jedi unlock; 2 slots after NGE
FFXI-> 1 character slot, additional MONTHLY charge for more(this may have changed, been years since I played)
I'm all for them adding more slots in the C-Store, I just won't buy them anytime soon.
Extra uniform items, more ship customization options, extra costumes... hell yeah I would buy them. Especially since I have no motivation what-so-ever of playing a Fed King or Ferengi.
Why do people insist on paying real world money for items that should be included in game as rewards for missions/exploration?
We need a finished game not a c store that requires real world money. Any item should be achievable through questing in game. Your worried about them making more money? how about worrying about getting a finished game?
It may just be me, but i have never spent real world money on a game except for purchase and subs.

I'm faskinated by your knowledge of the codebase for the game and look forward to seeing your detailed explanation of the system Cryptic, and in specific for STO, uses for this.
But functional gear which will affect gameplay, no
Nice of you to try sneaking in a WoW reference.
What makes *some* people think that game-influencing items are going to be sold in the C-Store? This subject has come up before and it baffles me -- almost as much as the question of "why does it matter to those people if someone else has a nicer toy than they do?" Honestly, we're only competing with ourselves. It's not like any of this matters in the real world. Maybe *some* people should check their over-competitiveness at the airlock.
I think it would be great to have items like uniforms (Archer & Pike-eras) and ship skins. I'd even be willing to pay a modest fee for more character slots (thus helping to pay for the additional draw on Cryptic's servers).
This is a game. Let's not worry or quibble about who has the most and nicest toys. *I* do. Case closed.

I know it's sacreligious to refer to another MMO, but the one that comes to mind is DDO, it is a very different environment to STO, but what it does have is a well established in game store, that happens to include:
Character Slots,
Races,
Cosmetic Items,
and yes, weapons and gear.
In no way does this actually break the game, because game devs do realise we need a sense of acheivement. In this case the gear you can buy is no higher then gear you could get leveling, and often, isn't even quite as good as some of the better rewards. What it is there for is so that people can choose to pay money for gear they would often put some time in for, and therefore expedite their journey to end game.
Currently, i don't think its necessary, as the journey to end game in STO isn't all that long, however, as they release more content (which hopefully includes both end game AND mid game, this might become more appropriate, however, whenever they may choose to implement something like this it will not break the game...
my reasoning? at the moment i have an over-abundance of faith in humanity, i simply believe no one could honestly desire to sabotage themselves by breaking a good thing!
I definitely agree that there shouldn't be any weapons or equipment in the C-store that can't be outdone by obtainable in-game weapons or equipment. The one exception would be C-store exclusive cosmetic stuff (costumes, costume accessories, ship parts, new races, etc.).
I mean, who doesn't want a really cool android Boff or maybe an ultra-cool, curly Kirk hairdo? How about a captain's vest or a third nacelle for their cruiser??
Cryptic, I hope things like this are in the works. You're sitting on a goldmine.

i would like a couple more character slots thats for sure, i like my alts :P
but yeah, most of the dev posts related to it "we are looking at implementing this asap" "we are working on it" and my favourite "soon"

Agreed
It's one thing to offer advanced weapons and gear, if you collect PvP tokens or whatever.
But simply charging $5 and handing someone The Sword of a Thousand Truths... nuh uh.
Character slots, sure
Uniform changes, sure
Cosmetic ship changes, sure
Race templates, sure (obviously)
But functional gear which will affect gameplay, no
