One night half asleep i was playing sto, and made the mistake of using the train up button, on one of the npcs i got as a reward. I replaced my most senior bridge officers abilities with new ones. One problem these new abilities are not maxed out and there fore at Lt Commander i cant use next level on my officers abilites. Sense i have already spent the skill points, it puts me at a disadvantage. Is there any way to get those skill points back?

Sadly, I think those points are gone forever. If it makes you feel any better though, as you level up you eventually get to the point where you have so many points you can't even spend them. I have over 20k officer points on my main. Unfortunately, for now, I think you are just going to be stuck with re earning the points. Might be worth your effort to put in a ticket, not sure if they will help since it isn't really a bug, but worst they can do is tell you "NO".

How does one go about unlearning something?

You mean other than hang on on the forums?

No clue and the BO points are gone you will get lots more so no worries.

Don't worry too much about wasting BO skill points. Early on it can kind of suck as you don't get them super fast and you have lots of places you want to spend them. But as you get later in the game you'll end up with more than you can use by a longshot. So, while it may be inconvenient now, it's not going to TRIBBLE you up for your entire career.

I have almost 30,000 bridge officer points to spend, and all of my BOs are already maxed in their skills. At RA5, you earn double the BO points you normally would (to replace the Skill Points you're not learning).

    Can have several reasons, e.g.

    - you must promote your BO
    - your ship type does not support tac T2 skills
    - skill button is placed on a higher hotbar (e.g. bar 4, look through them all)

Escorts have fewer weapon slots at Tier 5 than Cruisers (seven slots, versus eight). So strictly speaking, a Cruiser can mount more weapons. Escorts do get bonus weapon power, but that's not really mathematically better than the Cruiser's increased power across the board.

Thing is, Cruisers have poor turning rate, which means it's more difficult to actually use weapons.

Also, Escorts can use Cannon weaponry. Cruisers can't (though they can use Turrets) - but mostly Cruisers use Beams. Cannons have certain advantages over Beams. When you fire a Beam, your weapon power output drops slightly. Fire too many Beams, and you'll start to see your weapon power drop a lot, even with EPS flow equipment. Cannons don't drain weapon energy. Cannons also get Cannon: Rapid Fire, which is a superior bridge officer power.

That said, Cannons have a narrow firing arc. A very narrow firing arc. Granted this is less of a problem since Escorts are so nimble, but many players have problems getting the nose of their ship properly on target - remember, this is a 3D game, so it's not just a matter of being orientated on a 2D plane, you also need to point the front of your ship up and down, depending on the enemy's elevation relative to you.

Secondly, while you can fire all your Beams at once, Cannons have a global cooldown; firing one Cannon puts your other Cannons on cooldown. You need to fire Cannons one after another, you can't fire them together. This means that Beams actually have a better burst DPS. Cannons have better sustained DPS, mind you.

What I'm saying is this: while Escorts 'do more damage than Cruisers'... you have to understand WHY people say they do more damage than Cruisers. It depends. If your playstyle is more suited to Cruisers, you may actually end up doing more damage in a Cruiser than you would in an Escort.

See, Escorts are fragile, yes. But for many players it doesn't really matter; a good Escort player will kill things so quickly that their weaker shields and hull don't make a difference.

If you're a poor Escort player and have difficulty aiming your front-mounted weapons, or have problems swinging around to make attack runs... then yeah, you're gonna suck. It depends.

If you're trying Escort...and are worried about the durability...take a bunch of self-heal powers like Science Team, Engineering Team, Emergency Power to Shields, Hazard Emitters, and so on.

And get either Jam Sensors or Scramble Sensors. Or both. You want to use those, so the enemy you're shooting at can't shoot back.

You lost all thoses points now.

Before I swapped out all my BO's for Purple ones.
I made sure I had an ample supply of BO points saved.

So basicly it comes down to your playstyle, thanks for the info.
On the points isssue seems to be leveling out, learning all this is taking time, but i am getting the hang of it.

So it seems i ran into two questions.
The first is where i can i pick up Mark IV/4 gear for my ship, and officers? DS9 had some gear for my officers but not a complete store set.
The second question seems a little off and strange to me, but why is there enemy single contacts in the DS9 region, that are Federation starships?

You can get MKIV stuff with badges of exploration from Sol. I think they are available somewhere else as well, but for the life of me can't remember.

The federation ships you are seeing are from the Mirror Universe. If you don't know Trek that well, basically its an "Evil" version of the Trek Universe, a place where the feds are evil and sadistic. You will eventually get a few missions that go into detail.
