This isn't a rant or rave or anything like that I just honestly want to know how I died.

I was hit with sub beam zzzz. Got out of it. Hit hazard, RSP. Then I well died from 75% hull and full shields to dead in what appears to be 2 shots by one person. I'm pretty sure there was only one or two at most people around me.

According to my combat log

Your Covariant Shield Array - Rear absorbs 794 (4063458) damage
Caine deals 451496 (882) Antiproton damage to with antiproton Array.

http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/4345/screenshot2010030912245.jpg

The log doesn't seem right but I did go from alive to dead in about 2 secounds. Ist here something I don't know about atm?

Also in your face Feedback pulse whingers lol

I'm wondering if it's possible that your shields got dropped by a Science vessel.

Two shots if you check the log. First one takes out my shield with an insane number. Something my shield should never been able to absorb so much of. Perhaps the size of the hit bugged the shields.

The second shot killed me. Needless to say I have 2 huge damage shots one after the other from what looks like a normal anitproton beam array. That previously in my log shows it doing 1.5 Kish damage.

That's the new super secret Fed antiproton beam of death.

    I want one.

But really this is the first I've seen of that. Interesting. Wonder if it was a freak accident or something purposeful. I'm guessing the former. But I have no clue myself.

It might be obvious to state this, but I know the higher your weapon power, the more powerful a beam, cannon, or turret attack can get. If some one were to buff their weapon power up high enough (Weapon Battery, Emergency to Weapon, EPS, etc?) I'm wondering if that would explain it.

At the moment, the UI display caps at 125 weapon power, but there is actually no weapon power cap for the purposes of damage calculation. (According to tests, with numbers, by other players.)

I am not sure what the theoretical max would be. Certainly around the 250 mark, if not 300.

Theoretically, this should be enough to produce a 200-400k return on a single hit, if combined with damage buffs and if it crits.

If there is a bug involved, I would say that, for certain, one bug is the fact that weapons power does not cap at 125.

I don't think that it is just weapon power. 1500 on a beam should be about 100ish from a sci ship. I'm assuming sci as I was hit by SnB before this.

I'm happy to be proved wrong though. My BIG regret atm is that I didn't have FBP up :( Can you imagine the QQ if I got to return that much beam damage lol.

On a serious note. It seems like a bug atm to me. I don't think the other player is exploiting I think we just hit a weird combo to bug the damage that high. It is probably something Cryptic should look into. I don't think people want to be killed in 2 seconds flat by another ship. Did they change something on live in the last day or two that could affect this to bug out sometimes?

I know one other player had a similar experiance. I wonder how many other don't notice as they take it as being zerged to death? I only noticed as it was pretty much one on one at the time and it was all going easily then I went boom. At first I thought "did I hit abandon ship like a TRIBBLE?

This has been my experience since the start of the game in many matches, it is only after last weeks patches that once could feel a better balance (over the week end)...something broke again maybe?

Thats what I thought when I saw the SS. That would have been epic damage return, probably over 1million.

Are you sure about this ? Because even the tooltip of weapons doesnt change, so either its only visible in combat log, or its not true :-) any source of testing it so i can read something at work ?

Yup, happens to me all the time, I've gone from 100% to *POOF* in less than a second.

The bad part is, it happens so fast I can't even tell what they hit me with, yet trigger any kind of defense or counter.

That's the downside I'm seeing to this game, too much magic goin on.

    They VM me
    I SC the VM
    I Sub Beam them
    They Jam Sensor me

Whatever happen to I hit you, you hit back, just a good old fashion boxing match?!?!?!?!

You're right, it seems the damage calculation is still based on 125 max, but power drain is based on 'effective' power level (i.e., can go above 125). So theoretically you can fire 8 energy weapons at 125 each. (Instead of the first at 125, and the rest below that.)

The 'litmus test' is, buff your weapon power level above 125 (even though the tooltips and power readouts don't display anything above 125), then fire off multiple weapons. You will see the drain either not going below 125 (depending on your current effective power level and the number/type of weapons fired), or going only a short distance below 125 (again, depending on the above).

I'm not sure if damage calculation is based on 'effective' power level (i.e., above 125). If it is, that would explain these high damage numbers (in combination with damage buffs/debuffs + crit). If it is not, then this does not explain the 400k+ damage, since that was the result of a single shot.

Nah, those high numbers are from bug. You can never reach those numbers with normal math :) Im not using heavy energy draining setup, so its hard to notice...i dont care that much for dps, but rather the end result. But was naturaly curious about it.

...We're trying to determine exactly what the bug is. :o

It could very well be that the damage calculation is being based off 'effective' weapon power (above 125). Only Cryptic can say for certain, but I'm just putting this out there.

Certainly the fact that -any- calculation (certainly power drain) is based on an 'effective' power level (above 125) should be considered a bug and should be investigated.

Correct me if I am wrong. Phasers have a chance to take out a system or shield facing yes? If so I wonder if the damage is immediately applied to hull and instead of the first blast taking the shields and then the next would hit the hulls assuming one did not turn.

Just a lucky proc? I will try to ask a dev how that works.

and numerous people are using the next skill to be nerfed Target Subsystems Shields, Eng, aux, weaps.....

So teams of two can take out your shields and if close enough torp you into space dust especially with a transphasic from point blank or phasers. No shields is a bad thing against players.

Unsure to be honest. I had a 4 million damage hit to my shields. Then the 450K to the hull was a second shot. But the beam was antiproton.

I did have RSP and emiiters on my ship at the time. I was over 75% hull on a carrier and RSP had made all my shields full strength when this happened.

Perhaps there is something in that combo and something the other player used at the time.
