Cryptic.

What is wrong with you guys,?

Seriously how hard can it be to keep your subscribed game running?
My STO loader screen is just sitting there now displaying patch but is doing nothing.
Your QA procedure sucks :(

If your going to keep disrupting the game, then put a schedule on the loader screen with details such as :
1. Schedule of patch releases by dates and time
2. Perform capacity planning and impact analysis of the disruption this will cause your customers e.g. Look to Split up the downlod by countries\regions to reduce overload of your server etc.
3. If we are in a queue for downloading the patch , estimate how long it will take from connecting to the game
4. Upload it to bit torrent as an alternative way to get the patch and allow us to manually download and install

Come on guys get your act together, if you worked in the IT environment as I do, and you carried on like this you would be sacked.

Have a bit of thought for your customers, we are your bread and butter.

Thanks for the quick repsonse, was not expecting that !

Not sure what a nettest is , can you be more specific please.

What I can tell you is that I am in the UK. network LAN connection at 100Mb to a cable router which has a 10MB broadband and is working properly. (just tested a throughput test.
I am running Vista 64 bit.

The STO launcher version is CL_2010_03_02_16_58 and at the bottom left hand side it says Version ST.0.20100225a.6..
It first d\l up to 5% and then has reset itself and done nothing for over an hour now.

    Here you go
Try running the Cryptic network connectivity tool http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe and see if anything fails.

Copy and paste these results in a reply for us to review if you are not sure what to look for.
Comment out your Local IP address, as shown in the examples below.

A successful nettest will look like the following: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showpost.php?p=2104305&postcount=5

    A failed nettest example: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showpost.php?p=2104410&postcount=6

    it only displays :

    contacting nettest server.
Local IP: 86.xx.xx.xx - Where xx is my public IP address
    Ping: 200.2 msec
    Port: 80:

It will not get any further

Yeah don't try and pretend this is a local issue. It's happening with dozens of players and has been for at least the last 3 hours..

I can take down time due to fixes, but a broken launcher is no fun. I surely hope you can fix this ASAP, as it seems there are quite a lot of people experiencing this...

If you'd read the existing threads rather than making a new one, then you'd know it seems to be an outage between the US and EU, and for some affects more than just STO. Also, the devs would have fewer threads to respond to when trying to get info on the problem.

Just saying. I empathise that the forum is just a little slow right now. Here's hoping to a quick fix.

FYI - I was one of the first and searched the forums for a answer and found nothing.

This is a paid service and I am entitled to complain as a paying customer end of.

What Cryptic should do is issue an appology.

You are very quick to throw accusations at cryptic when from the looks of your nettest I would guess that your firewall is blocking it.

    Blocking what?
    IP address? port address?, application?
I work in IT infrastructure I know all about security.
If anything is being blocked now that is because Cryptic changed it, my firewall would tell me anyway and ask what I would want to do - just like it did for the nettest.
I have received no warning message and nothing is in my firewall log....

Fair enough if your thread was one of the first and the others later received more posts; I retract my earlier statement.

However, you aren't paying for the ability of the Internet to route packets, so asking for an apology when the problem hasn't been identified and you have no idea whether it's even at Cryptic's end is a bit much. There are times when backbone routes go down and it takes typically an hour or more for routers to route around the disconnect, and that even assumes it's a downed route rather than a problem with packet loss. If a router somewhere in New York that we're all happening to go through has decided to have a fault, there's not much Cryptic can do except ring and ask someone to look at it, and they've got to identify it first.

Great, do a packet capture and see what is happening.

Well I can only say I wish I had customers who were so forgiving if they received outages for a paid service !

The main issue here is the lack of information e.g. If there is a routing fault then it wouldn't be too difficult to trace and let everyone know., I doubt in the Uk we would be connecting to a router in NY but without some infrasctructure diagrams I can't honestly say what we are connecting to.

In the end this is a paid service and in my view customers are entitiled to a certain quality of service and if a company wants to keep its customers is should look into compensating users for downtime e.g. free days play etc.

I have the same problem but cannot see any response from you explaining just how to get round this?

I am a lifetime subscription holder who works hard all day in an IT team responsible for dealing with my companys crisis. What you have here is a crisis.

You need to communicate to your customers in a clear and precise way, how to get logged on.

I have not seen evidence of this on your support forums which means at very least it is not obvious that you have posted any help.

My net test stops at port 80.

You could start by telling us exactly what that means in terms of STO and recommend a course of action.

    Thanks (in advance) for listening

Well the problem is: With all the free days to play we should already get nobody playing would ever have to pay ever again^^ And thats not good for a company depending on money.

I would be pleasured if would get the TOS-Uniforms wich where includet in the Edition i bought and did neither recieve nor getting even an answer to my ticket... but i guess i'm off topic...

Guys this is not a patch problem, since I was playing happily post patch today with no problems, yet now I am having the same problem.

I've ping tested this to bits and the ONLY servers that I have any trouble connecting to is cryptics. I've tested against multiple US servers with no problems.

Any word form Cryptic on what is happening please? This is not a solo issue there are a hell of a lot of people with the same problems if you read the different forum sections.

As it currently stands I get as far as character selection with no problems then cannot get any further due to no timely response from the server. Co incidence that this is happening for the second time when the server is busy??

My patch downloader which had managed to make it to 10% after two hours has gone back to zero.

Please post a clear communication explaining what this is?

If it is a technical problem that we can fix by adjusting settings, help.

Do not post links to general Q&As.

Be specific and treat your customers with respect.

Please, because I really like this game and thus far really dislike the service that goes with it sometimes..
