Greetings to the community,
I'm known as
@Gunthaar on STO and I also play WoW (which I'm gonna use as a reference but, don't go thinking that, what I want, is "Space WoW"... I'm only talkin about design, game improvement over 5 years of work and what our community could benefit if we don't make the same errors along the way)
I consider myself a Casual player who enjoys as much PvP as I do PvE. I've played the game up to Captain 2 on my Federation and Commander 1 on my Klingon.
So far, I do appreciate the frequent updates to the game, it does mean that "Cryptic" cares about this game, no matter how unfinished the game was, I'm pretty sure it wasn't their decision to release it this early.
With that desire of improvement in mind, here are my suggestions.
A few years ago, on WoW, we also had a Queuing problem... Going to a 10 vs 10 game didn't guarantee that we'd be exactly 10 vs 10 right from the start... which was bad. It's kind of bad like that right now.
After a few months, the Blizzard changed the Queuing system so that when you're called to the Battleground, there's exactly 10 players on each teams right from the start.
I strongly advise Cryptic to follow the example. This will be mostly enjoyed by everyone to start on an even numbered game.
Second point: Capture and Hold.
Last time I did this scenario, we started 2 v 2. Me and my teammate were pretty coordinated and managed to keep an advantage by capturing and holding 4 objectives. The Feds were down to 61 influence and we were at about 1180. Then, 3 more feds came in (read 5 vs 2), captured everything and... basically we lost 61 to 0...
Honestly, I really felt cheated... both by the Queuing system and the way the influence score works. There 2 Scenarios in WoW that feels pretty similar: Arathi Basin and Eye of the Storm.
Both these scenarios have you capture objectives to increase ressources/points to a specific amount and win if you reach it first. "Capture and Hold" in STO is basically the opposite... you win if you get the enemy to reach 0 by capturing objectives.
In order to avoid being totally cheated from victory, I'd suggest that, when you capture 1 objective, the Influence starts to drop. Even if it's 4 to 1... the team that has 4 drops the opponent's influence faster than those who only got one. This way, if you want to stop influence from dropping you HAVE to capture everything.
I remind everyone that this is constructive feedback. I do want this game to improve as much as Cryptic and the community does. Post comments in this perspective
