Joystick support - ever?

I heard that this game was going to support the xbox 360 controller at launch. But you know, any joystick support would be awesome. I see that some jay buttons are premapped, so why can't I use my USB flight stick for space flight?

The XBox controller is an entirely different API from all other joysticks/gamepads, so supporting one has no bearing on the other.

Is adding proper joystick/flightstick support even on the table? I'd really like to break out my X52 for this game.

No idea, better to ask up in the engineering report section :-)

I know for a fact I posted in the Engineering Report, and linked to this thread, which seems to be the central I-wish-we-could-use-joysticks thread. It wouldn't surprise me if a bunch of other people did, too. We seem to be extremely enthusiastic about it, as a group.

You could use the Saitek software to program most functionality into the X52. It wouldn't be proper support, but you could probably get something serviceable out of the X52.

Yeah, there's a whole guide on how to do it, even how to get the throttle to work properly, but it's a lot of work to set up, and while I want joystick support, I don't want it badly enough to spend an hour setting it all up.
