Battle Cloak for Raptors! - what do you think?

You read it.

The ship has a point, it is the highest DPS ship of the Klingons.
It just has two problems, or better, it lacks two TRUMP abilities:

The BoP has

1. Battle Cloak
PLUS
2. Uni Slots

I would use a Raptor, but a BoP in a Raptor-like BO setup still has the battle cloak which totally trumps the extra dps and hull a Raptor has.

Till then, when playing my Fed, I will go on shooting Raptors for sure. They can run, but they can't hide like a certain Bird.

at least let them cloak outside of 10km of a hostile.

it sucks that we can be prevented from cloaking because we have to wait for the torpedo we out ran to finally catch up and explode...even though the damage was calculated for the impact way before impact.

In Canon all Klingon and Romulan ships had cloak in ToS, by the time period we are talking about they wouldnt imagine not having full cloak abilities.

    S*D

oh god, could you imagine the wave of tears and yelling the feds would do,I dont think this will ever happen. We are allready get enough grief and crying about how OP the BoP is because of battlecloak AND Uni slots!
They allready wants nerfs to our existing ships but yet we still lack sci specific ships!

Raptors raptors, what to do with them....well, i dont feel battle cloak is the answer. They dont need to be more sneaky to be more useful.

Maybe if they got some integral weapons cooldown bonus, or as weapons effectiveness bonus like escorts get.

Yes and the cloaking effect took several seconds to complete also, you also have the luxury of being able to insta battle cloak when ever your cool down expires and just have to deal with the chance a torpedo will hit you. If it was more to the cannon line of star trek cloaking in the mist of battle wouldn't be a good idea cause it would give you 3 to 5 seconds of vulnerability which someone should be able to use to tear you up. I could support giving a battle cloak to any Klingon ship if certain conditions were met, and this is coming from a federation player also.

I would have to say for those conditions would be to make the cloaking effect more cannon in which it takes about 5 seconds to totally complete where the ship is being enveloped in the cloaking field and its shields are down leaving you vulnerable, I know you won't like it but it is cannon to the way star trek cloaking technology exists. Also I would have to add in that the detection tech that the federation have such as scan sweep that only science officers use be extended to 10km weapons range, which would make it easier to pull you out when you enter weapons range. Remember cloak is meant for espionage and sneak attacks not just for running away so it should have some major disadvantages should someone actually manage to reveal you, right now you have a 5km gap which is massive to which you can close into being in weapons range before any detection abilities have the remote chance to reveal you.

(EDIT) I forgot to add when I typed this originally with that 5 seconds of vulnerability once it expires all torpedoes that haven't hit you lose track and automatically miss. So if you manage to survive for those 5 seconds not being hit by torpedoes you will be fine cause the rest of the torps have lost track of you and miss completely.

So, exactly how battle cloak works now? It takes 3 seconds from the time the button is pushed and drops your shields to complete the battle cloak and become untargetable. So, as an attacking Fed, you have 3 seconds to pound my hull while I'm cloaking, and any torpedoes launched will continue to track and hit me no matter how much time passes after I cloak.

As to the topic at hand, I have no opinion . . . I think battle cloak is grossly overrated, I used a Raptor through T2 and didn't miss it.

You think the howling about Battle Cloak is bad enough when it comes to the BoP , just put it on the Raptor and you'll ears will bleed. I will agree they need to do something to make the Raptor more playable then it currently is though . This would definitely make it more so. Will it happen , I doubt it, I don't Cryptic has the balls, honestly.

A possible compromise would be a 5 s , cloak time on a bigger ship with more hit points ? Don't forget at some point Romulans will be added and all their ships have battle cloak , so some system needs to be in place to accomadate that faction. So Feds need to L2P.

I don't know what to do about the Raptor. I also don't think that battle cloak is the answer.

What we should probably do is make it into a Science ship -- give it the science ship attacks (Target Subsystem abilities integrated into the ship), the science ship shield buff and rework the consoles to be basically like a science ship. BOP would continue its role as the cloaking DPS while the battle cruiser is the DPS/tank and then Raptor is the Science ship (in T5 the carrier is a science ship but the Raptor would still have a place as "the science ship that doesn't turn like a slug").

That would make sense and is probably the easiest thing to do.

Although I also think it's true that a lack of good Tactical BOFF abilities hurts the Raptor (and Federation Escorts too). Having two Tactical BOFF positions really isn't that useful, especially if one of them is an Ensign. Ensign tactical abilities are TRIBBLE. High Yield Torp can be good but you don't really need two of them and there are no Ensign cannon abilities.

So, optionally, Cryptic could go back to the drawing board and give us some more tactical BOFF powers that don't totally suck and then maybe those extra Raptor seats would be worth something.

I've been a huge BoP fan for those very reasons. As leveled up though the Battle Cloak seemed to lessen in its usefulness. At higher levels using it to run will most likely get you killed. It was nice to recloak instantly after a fight but its a minor loss. Personally I think everything should be able to battle cloak. If you want to drop your shields and cloak then do it. You never saw the Klingons say ok wait a few minutes and then cloak up LOL. You drop shields and you cloak end of story.

Raptor should be re-tooled, give it the ability to target sub-systems, and have the bo's/slots geared towards science.

I love my Klingon, but Battle Cloak should remain limited to the BoP. Not because it's Cannon, but because it's fair to the Feds. If both Raptors and BoP had Battle Cloak, the feds would hardly every win a match, because we would never die.. We'd simply cloak, maneuver, and attack again. It is hard enough for feds to handle BoP's doing that in combat with multiple targets. Raptors would be over kill.

Also, if Raptors had Battle Cloak, hardly anyone would fly a BoP... Add to that Universal slots in Raptors, and nobody would fly a BoP at all...

The desire of Raptors over BoP is higher DPS at the cost of no Battle Cloak. If you want Battle Cloak, fly a BoP..

I mostly play Federation, but I've been leveling up my Klingon lately, and frankly I don't think Battle cloak would be any more OP for Raptors than the regular cloak is. On my BoP I really can't use Battle Cloak as an escape unless I already used speed or an obstacle to get out of range/LOS. Cloaking in combat usually means you keep getting pounded for 5 seconds, only now it's without shields.

On my Feds, I almost always kill BoPs that cloak in combat.

I've got to say that I really don't see the problem with Raptors though, especially as compared to Fed escorts. The hardest thing about skippering an escort is that everybody will shoot you first, and your ship is pretty fragile so to be most effective you really need to get a couple seconds of firing on your target before they return fire. The regular cloak makes that incredibly easy.

The real problem is that tactical BOs suck, and tactical captains (who are likely to skipper an escort) kind of suck.
