Ok I have never complained about any off the dumb/weird stuff that has been implemented into STO until now... So I went to post a load of stuff to exchange..... and really there is a 20 item limit...????
Um ridiculous... If I can get some dev feedback on this it would be great...

Because the don't place a time limit on the items you place on the AH.
yes, more would be nice, but it'd probably come at the cost of a time limit on auctions.
btw, reasonable prices for items = ability to move more products

We will re-evaluate the limit on items once we implement time limits and fees for items posted to the exchange.
Not only should there be a 20 item limit, but if the item doesn't sell within a set amount of time it should be auto-mailed back to you.... just the the current AH system in WOW. That's how they keep the AH from being overstocked like the exchange is currently.
20 items is fine with me. I look at the Exchange now and it seems like people are using 18 of their 20 items (on average) for overpriced garbage anyhow.
What, you want to post more garbage and slap a 600k pricetag on it? All that does is make the exchange EVEN laggier.
I wouldn't mind a limit increase but i'd want it to come with timed auctions.
I'd actually also like it to set an exchange fee based on the price the seller is putting up on the exchange, this would keep prices lower otherwise things wont sell and it'll cost the sellers money. it's a nice way to keep the items in the exchange flowing and adds a nice little and much needed money sink IMO.
20 items is fine. I work the exchange pretty hard, and on the rare occasion that I have 20 items on the market, I can be assured that at least 15 of those will have sold within the hour. Time limits are more important to me, honestly. I'm a little tired of seeing pages and pages of items that were listed at launch for ridiculous prices, yet I still have to navigate through 10+ pages just to get to anything reasonable.
On a side note if the devs are still following this thread. Are there any plans to expand bridge officer sales on the exchange to allow searching by traits and skills? It's not fun going through page after page of the same three bridge officers just to find one with the skill you want.
We will re-evaluate the limit on items once we implement time limits and fees for items posted to the exchange.
Well, isn't that great? I am happy with the way the exchange works right now, no fee, no time limit, just commerce ammong the players. And the 20 item limit is fair.
And probably thanks to greedy bas****s like the OP who complain about the ONE SINGLE LIMIT on the exchange, we will get a system that will resemble WoW's AH more - which I find highly annoying.
See, the reason behind auction fees in a game has always escaped me. A time limit is unneccessarily restrictive, as you have to check frequently for your stuff and, if something might not get sold, have to spend more time on the same item to make at least a shred of profit with it.
However a limit to how many items can be posted simultanously is something that I really enjoy seeing, as it prevents people from flooding "page 1" with a myriad of stackable single items (once again, WoW traumatized me there - having to click through a total of about 400 single pieces of high priced X dust for enchanters gets really tiresome when all you want is 1 stack of said dust at a decent price).
You wouldnt have this problem if you didnt sell your equipment on the exchange at prices noone would ever buy. By all rights, with the number of players as there are, stuff should be flying out of the exchange...
20 is great. The only reason it's not enough is probably because you overprice your items. Mine sell in basically 10 minutes when I put stuff in there because I always try to price it as fairly as I can come up with & if it hasn't sold in the first few days I head back & reduce some more until it's sold. The only reason the exchange sucks is because people put stuff at stupid prices or use it as an extension to the bank!!!

Auction fees are a money sink and a check against people putting up lots of overpriced items which is something this game sorely needs. Time limits mean that people who leave the game won't have their auctions wasting space on the exchange up until the end of time which is also something this game sorely needs.
Because the don't place a time limit on the items you place on the AH.

And just how the E#^&(% are we to determine what a reasonable price is without scrolling through every page? Cryptic needs to give us the option to sort by price. I have barely used the AH because of this.
Cryptic needs to follow EverQuest 2's auction house model. No time limit, limit on number of items, but give the ability to sort by many factors, including price.
We will re-evaluate the limit on items once we implement time limits and fees for items posted to the exchange.
Oh god please no, that was one of the lamest thing about city of villains that you'd get huge chunks of money stolen by the system for no reason constantly really made selling stuff unfun
also a time limit does not make it in any way better for players, don't be a resource miser when it will mean that everyone will have to check stuff more often for no other reason than you decided to put in something to annoy people that really doesn't NEED to be there...
Completely agree, the first is great, the second sucks. Time limit is needed simply for those who stop playing so that their items don't clog up the exchange but honestly I don't see how adding a fee is helpful.
And just how the E#^&(% are we to determine what a reasonable price is without scrolling through every page? Cryptic needs to give us the option to sort by price. I have barely used the AH because of this.
I agree price sorting would be most useful, however deciding on a price is not impossible. I have no problems selling, just use the base value as a guide, add a little on top for a nice profit & voila you have a price to sell at. Also take into factor if it's a common, rare etc. For example if I have a common to sell & low ranking I price at the marked value or under. Just use your common sense. It's not rocket science LOL.
Okay, after reading everyones comments on this .. here's my current situation on this and what would help in the future:
Current:
Doctor Belle - She is my main character and sells any of my items worth 10k or more.
Lt Cmr Chantelle - She is my engineer and sells any item worth 5k or more.
Lt Adelle - She is my tribble farmer and sells anything worth less than 5k.
Most days I will sell 5 items within 20 minutes of posting them up. Each week I take down the items and repost them. Another 5 items sell within 20 minutes again. I just repeat the cycle. I never over price and either price just under the value, just over the value or on the special items I will do a 3 page check on prices and pick an average price from that. I place up highest value items first and if I run out the items left are either vendored or placed in bank for next exchange cycle.
Improvements:
Limits - 20 seems fine but if we do increase it definitely no more than 50
Fees - Have a small fee for posting and a large fee with a successful sale. EG. Item worth 10k, put on exchange for a fee of say 100. The item sells so take another 900, A total of 1k which is the 10% some people are asking for. This way, you are not penalised if the item is not sold but have the money sink if you are a successful trader. 50 items at 100 make a 5k money sink with a 50k money sink if they all sell.
Time Limits - I'd say system limit being a month with player limited timers of 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month or some such thing. This way you can choose how long you wait until the item is returned to you or even better add another option to say ...
Unsold Goods - If it doesn't sell at this point mail me or pass it to the replicator. That way you are giving the nasty task of vendoring to the Exchange Workers if you don't want to handle that scenario yourself.
Oh god please no, that was one of the lamest thing about city of villains that you'd get huge chunks of money stolen by the system for no reason constantly really made selling stuff unfun
Personally, I never had an issue with the listing fee in CoH/V. It was a way to deter exorbitant prices for certain items. Another thing about the auction system in CoH/V was that if even if you did try to sell something for an excessive amount it would languish on the list because no-one could buy it as the cheapest items were sold first.
As for STO, I'd love to see the ability to sort by price. It'd help both buyers and sellers. Buyers could find what they want for a decent price without having to trawl through 10+ laggy pages of TRIBBLE. Sellers would be able to move their stuff quickly thus freeing up their slots.
Let the extortionists languish at the bottom of the list. Perhaps they might learn not be so greedy.
We will re-evaluate the limit on items once we implement time limits and fees for items posted to the exchange.
The fact that you're planning a fee limit in the future cheers me up no end. I completely destroys the usefulness of the system when people are allowed to charge such ridiculous amounts. I don't mean stupid TRIBBLE like that guy selling standard phaser array for 20,000,000 either. There should be a 20% overhead cap on the full price of the item. These over inflated prices are ruining the way it should operate. Being able to sell for twice as much as you'd get from a seller +20% is more than fair and encourages competitive pricing by sellers.

Only time I found this to be a bit of a hassle is crafting, but since I tend to move stuff usually within 1-2 days I've only had the issue then.
It becomes an issue if your trying to sell items just above the Replicator Price and below the Vendor Price - then I agree the limit becomes more painful. For now I've had to Rep most of those items until the limit is increased to save the 20 for more valuable items, but since its posted under review, I'll wait to see how that turns out
I'm not sure about limits, still on the fence on this one. I do think those selling a Mk 2 Pistol for 10,000,000 is just stupid, but if I get a rare or very rare and want to sell it I don't want to be held back by a cap either (then again - I tend to sell fairly reasonable - but I have sold items higher than %20 above). Some items I've had to work at many hours, and that to me carries a value which isn't the suggested price +20%... so I'm still open to suggstions to get rid of "stupid pricing" but without a percent cap
Edit: I do think a search by price somehow would remove a lot of the overpricing. I find the best priced items at the end of the list - and that's a pain. Also - by seeing the best price right away, I think it would encourage al lot of overpricing to stop right away.

Ah, I always keep forgetting that fundamental idea of recommended retail price.
If an item is valued at 10k .. lets make sure it doesn't get charged out at more than 30k say. Or, perhaps there could be a RRP price shown on the item itself as a guideline for people to know it won't sell for more than that.
This way people have the choice of :
Replicator 40% of value
Vendor : 50% of value
Exchange : 60% to x% of value
And yes, sorting by price and time left ( if a time limit is set ) would allow people to grab that cheap item before its sale time is over or be fair and by that item set at a reasonable price. I sometimes do that myself. If an item is being sold at a price I feel it is worth I will buy it at that price, regardless as to seeing lower prices on there. Of course, if funds are low on that character then I would go for the lowest price
I like the item limit. It forces you to take down what hasen't sold and then re-sell it at a lower price. It helps keep the exchange from being too cluttered and overpriced.
Keep in mind this game requires a money sink of some sort. Right now money is being generated freely and put into the hands of players, but this money never leaves circulation (With the very small exception of hypos and other misc consumables). When you buy/sell something on the exchange, it just changes hands but it's still in the market.
I shouldn't have to explain why infinite money in circulation is a bad thing.
Listing fees are a very good way to take money out of the economy while simultaneously discouraging the listing of items for unreasonable amounts. Time limits on listings ensures the economy flows as well, by forcing players to reevaluate their asking price at regular intervals.
I agree an exchange revamp to allow for more sorting options would be great.

See what you did OP? ::eek:
What's ridiculous is that there are many overpriced items in there. Guys, use your bank account to store your stuff, not the exchange. Thanks.

Go for sort options instead.
