Two quick question (engines and tips)

On tooltips....is there a way to stop them from coming up EVERY time I visit the Sol spacedock and run near any of the 'special' npcs in the spacedock area? I can't find any options to turn off tutorial tips.

On Impulse Engines...I chose the rare Mk IV Impulse Engine mission reward for completing that Lt. Commander quest line with the Guardian. The engines give +5 to Weapons, Shields, and Aux power so I'm having a hard time giving them up. Is there another quest reward at Commander, Captain, or Admiral rank that will also yeild an Impulse Engine reward with +5 or more to various power levels? Thanks.

When the tooltip comes up, don't close it using the X in the upper right corner. Instead close it by clicking on the x inside the tooltip itself. Then that tooltip won't show again for that character and location.

I'm pretty sure I've done that before, yet it still comes up. Maybe it was fixed in a recent patch? I'll try it again, thanks!

In andwer to your second question, the answer is no. The Efficient Impulse Engine, Mk IV (Rare) iq unique in regards to any other available engine in the game. There is nothing comparable to it at any level. I've tested many, many other engines. Overall you don't loose that much Turn, Max Speed or Full Implue Max speed. (And by the way, It's a Hyper Impulse Engine as well. A Hyper Mk IV (rare)matches it speed for speed at all power setting levels.)

I haven't found anything that's better. I'm still using it on my Rear Admiral's flag ship. They almost made it too good.

    >.>
    <.<

You didn't hear that from me.

It gives you the equivalent of 5 Mk IX(?) Engineering power setting consoles for free. Or think of it as 5 free ranks of Shield, Aux, and WEapon Performance skills each.

Went and tested it at Earth Spacedock. Looks like it closes and does not reopen as long as you don't leave the map. But once you leave the map, the tooltip state is not saved so when you reenter the map the tooltip reappears. Seems to be a programming issue to me.

Thank you for this answer. Seems like either the + to power on it was either a mistake, or Cryptic forgot to put in upgrades to the engine for later levels. I just hope they don't nerf it in a later patch, though I can't say I would be surprised if they did, given their history.

This is exactly what keeps happening to me...if I close the tooltips, they won't reopen until after I leave the map and come back. Its just really annoying and has been this way since open beta. Thank you for trying it out and reporting your findings.

Eh. I wouldn't worry about the Engine being changed. As much as I like he Efficient Impulse engine, there are other players who don't feel the same way. They don't care about the +5 power setting bonus. They'd rather have the high speed or faster turn ratea high Mk engine will give them.

Ill take the free power. I can pick up more turn rate from an engi console than I can pick up weapon power, being an escort captain I dont have too many issues with turn rates anyway.

I don't think it's very likely to be changed.

I do think it's quite likely that a lot of people underestimate the advantages of speed in STO space combat, and thus overestimate the Efficient Impulse Engine Mk IV.

Whilst I havent found a way to stop them popping up again, the game does seem to remember the window settings for the tips.
If you drag the bottom right corner diagonaly to make it as small as possible, and then drag the window into a corner you dont really notice it anymore.

Speed has its place in combat sure, for PvP more than PvE I would say.
Then again though so does extra energy weapon damage, extra shield regeneration, extra science ability effectiveness, and that all comes from this engine.
