Who's bright idea was it to reward people or progress ina quest by dying? DId they not realize that it would encourage, nay, give license for people to negativly impact the gaming experience of PvPers who are actually trying to do well in PvP.
Its like a license to grief because someone had so little foresight that it didnt dawn on them that rewarding people to die woul dhave bad consequences.
Look, you can keep the 25 death quest, but instad of rewarding them just for dying 25 times, why not reward them based on how long it takes for them to die 25 times, or for how many kills they get until they die 25 times.
This way, everybody is reward for dying 25 times, but the reward is better if you actually play in a manner conducive to the point of team PvP. It would actually encourage people to not suicide, but actually participate. Let the guy who dies 25 times in an hour or 25 times with only 25 kills get the bare minimum reward, like 10 BO and 10Skill points and 100 credits or something(thats just an example). But dont design a quest that encourages suicide churning and PvP disruption.
Why not instead encourage them to try their best and not lay down and waste the time of everybody else unfortunate to queue in on their team.
As I've said before, the reward model directly influences the goals and objectives of the community and thus how the community plays. If you reward just death, players will suicide for the reward(whats the point in that?). Think twice about how you model a quest and its rewards because players will always do the bare minimum, take the path of least resistance, they will always game the game unless the objective and reward is for something of purpose.
Cryptic, some of your PvP quests are amounting to nothing but sanctioned griefing. You give us team PvP, but then create self-centered and team destructive quests for rewards at the same time. You gives us team based win/lose objectives, but then introduce individuals who are there in the interest to do what is required to lose?
I know you guys are brighter than this, please re-think your content. No one here expects you come out an apologize or admit to a over sight...just remedy it for teh sake of the PvP community.
I agree. Ive come across a few who just full imuplse in, saying there leveling. I ask them if they realize theres not much more at top rank.
Without trying to die. Ive completed the mission twice since Ive gotten it. Im at Captian 2 so far. And have 3/25 on the third one. I think thats pretty good.
I agree. I've been in a few matches where players on my team have come straight out and told the enemy to kill them because they have unequipped their shield generators from their ships to make themselves easy targets so they can complete these quests.
I was told today that he is sorry, but he has to die 25 times for a daily. Here we are getting the best challenge of the night(best Ive had in over a week) and one guys blows through 10 of 15kills in 5 mins.
We begged him to work with us and not suicide...but his quest reward for dying trumped the team's interest and desire for meaningful play.
THEY MADE A D@MN DAILY THAT REQUIRED SOME ONE TO DIE 25 TIMES!?!?
This is like an English teacher who requires his students to plagiarize to write a mid-term paper.
I can see what they were trying to do with this it was just poorly implemented. They could have just awarded the rewards when the threshold was met. Like a hidden mission.
It is a good day to die but Worf never managed it.
There could be tons of these type of hidden waypoionts in the game..
You reach the 25 death mark and a window pops up and you are asked to report to xyz and you are rewarded in a ceremony etc.
If your going to die, at least die Fighting with everything you have!
The phrase "it is a good day to die", does not mean that people become suicidal, it just a way to overcome the fear of death so that a warrior can fight with all his/her vigor!
Well, i don't have much experience on klingons (i'm only LC2), but i'm pretty much playing half-suicidal, not caring whether i die or not. and it seems that i get to be #1 in kills and damage quite often. >.>
How is that quest not BRILLIANT?! It is a good day to... what?!
Cryptic did an excellent service to the game by making a playable faction that levels through pvp. The more content for klings the better, but at least the pvp quests are interesting. " Die 25 times" is a FANTASTIC objective compared to "win 3 matches."
You fellas are blowing this out of proportion. The Die to another captain mission gives 75 skill points. One has to be mentally challenged to think that he is getting a deal on XP from it. I completed just one of them, never bothered retaking it.
This all sounds great until your in a match thats 2 vs 8 for 10 mintues. Your not going to win and no one wants to wait while I hang out cloaked for another 10 minutes hoping we get a couple more players. If you base the reward on kills we'd still be screwed. Even with even numbers its not uncommon to find the other team are all +7 or +9 to every member of your team. From what I see typically the group will give it a go once or twice, figure out its totally not viable and drop shields and concede.
I personally had a few people thank me from the Federation side for not dragging out a very lopsided match. Its no fun for anyone. To play devils advocate though I feel your pain. I hate getting into a match and someone just throws it to complete their dying quest.
Quests dont have to just reward kills...but they could also reward captures and holds, healing/repairs of team mates...or the amount any number of those team building and team objective based actions up until you die 25 times.
But rewarding just 25 deaths is counter-productive and assine.
Yeah, I've had bozos do this in ground PvP too. They just run into the enemy group over and over jumping around until they die. Often they will tell them in /zone what they are doing.
It's annoying that people have to ruin the fun of others for these stupid missions.

Cryptic has a thing for rewarding people for losing. They frequently go overboard with it to the extent that losing is actually the objective.
It's like elementary school kickball. You get a ribbon just for showing up.
Vllad
Although i do die as #1 just as often.
yes, my posts are always this pointless >.<

Yes i have kicked many people from the pvp arena group for "grinding" their die 25 times mission.
the real kicker to me is that its like a LT 6 quest and nets like a whopping 50 skillpoints
