type in exactly what you're looking for e.g Disruptor Turret Mk X and it will come up with everything you're looking for.
If however you were looking for Disruptor Turret Mk VI and typed that in then it would also come up with MK VII and MK VIII in this case you would have to refine the search by rank using the dropdown menu.
Is there a way to sort the search results? I want the lowest prices at the top so I can save the most money.
Unfortunately no. I believe the default sort is the oldest at the top or at least the first page. If I see over 100 items listed, I always goto the second page because the first page is full or stuff people put up a month ago for way too much.
Yeah the search function is pretty primitive and very sensitive. But it's better than having no search at all.
I find the best thing is just to find the name of the exact item I'm looking for and type it out exactly. Once that's done then I just use the scrollwheel to whirl down the list looking for a non-stupid price.
Sometimes there's some for less than 120,000% markup near the bottom of the list or on a second page.
Even alphabetizing the list would help a lot. Then at least items would be all grouped together instead of a Mk V, then a Mk X, then a Mk VII, and so on.
The exchange needs work definately. Right now it's the bare minimum and barely usable. These things are a must:
- Sort by price
- Sort by name
- Sort by value
- Checkbox to filter out goods you cannot afford.
- Filter price range
- Sellers name
- Short message by poster such as "will trade for ubercannon 2000" (read below)
- Possibility to offer trade with other goods from your own inventory. Perhaps 5 slots / per trade you can put your offerings into.
I do understand that the priority is to make new and good looking content. That sells the game, however once in it the exchange is a very important part of the universe. Could it be that the developers are afraid that value of gear gained through missions would diminish if trading was easy?
I'd settle for a sort by price to start with. I know what I want and am willing to type in the full name. But the sorting through all the outrageous prices to find the few reasonable one's gets annoying.
Imagine being able to, say, search for a Ferengi engineer that knows "Boarding Party III"? Or a science kit that has both "Tachyeon Beam" and "Anestesine Gas" on it?
I'd love to see advanced search functions, and I do feel there should be a slight tax on these transactions.

[edit to add] Also you should be able to trade for both your own goods + E-creds.
Ok, I just realised that I missed one very important sort option. That is to sort by amount / quantity. I noticed that data samples were sold in stacks too. I must've given some seriously good deals to some since I always thought that it was the price per item you enter
I just wanted to let you guys know that we have a long list of exchange improvements that we have been and will continue to be working on. Some of the improvements have already been mentioned in the Engineering Reports forum, and there are more in the works or the coming weeks and months:
I really hope a sort-by-price feature gets implemented ASAP. I think that it is the simplest way to solve 90% of the problems with the exchange. All the other stuff sounds great, but honestly, I would rather not wait for them all to get tested and pasted QA. Sort-by-price is something that we need now.

"Fees for posting" - I like the exchange because there are no "auction house cuts" or "fees for posting" like there are in WoW. It's great to be able to post something that might not sell, but not have to worry that I wasted my money even posting it. Right now I can post a Mk II item for lower than vendor cost, but still get more than the cost to vendor the item, so that some newer character can buy it more easily. I'm still limited to posting 20 items, so that's a good way to limit Exchange spam.
If you want to limit the amount of items up on the exchange, just reduce the maximum character postings to 10 or 15. Don't charge fees or put time limits please.
The 5% of listed price (or 1% per day) and 10% commission (less listing fees paid) works well in many other games. The up front cost limits the using of the exchange as a bank, the commission reduces flipping.
Right now there is a fortune to be made skimming. See an item for a little less than going price, buy it resell and the markup is yours.
Sorting by price, will be the biggest boon to both sellers and buyers. Right now people have no idea what items are worth, and simply look at first page of listing go guess, these are the oldest unsold, also likely the highest values.
One feature I would like to see is to have an automatic floor price of 50% of value, anything priced under that is removed immediately. I would reduce my queries down, I have a couple items I query for that many people list under vendor price, that I will buy up to take to vendor. I lost track of how many engines I bought and flipped to vendor for a couple K profit.
As far as time limits, just go with 1% a day listing fee, applied to commission. if you pay 10% upfront, you get 10 days, if you pick 1% it lists for a day and returns to you if unsold. if sold 9% more is taken and you get your credits. Some items take longer to sell than other.
Further breakdown is really needed in: kits, consoles, weapons both ground and ship, and tribbles

Flipping was a big issue in WoW for price inflation on all four servers I played across my years in that game. They have posting fees and and transaction fees. I had guild mates who would sit on the auction house and just flip items. What fees prohibited were people who were not so focused on the auctions from being as active on the AH.
Item limits are useful in limiting flipping, but not prohibitive to the casual seller. It also would reduce the effect of people using the exchange as a bank. Like I said, if 20 items is too much, then make it 10.
Currently, all the exchange would need is a better filtering system.

Tye "Disruptor Turret" in the search box. Make sure you also select "Admiral" in the drop down menu.

Let's get an economy really going in this game!

Excellent. Does the better filtering mean the sorting options perhaps?
