Freezing at Launcher Load

Hello folks,

I was playing earlier this morning for a few hours when the cable went out for a few hours and disconnected me. I shut down my laptop and moved along. Now that I'm ready to play again, I double clicked on the STO icon and it brings up the white screen saying "Loading. Please wait." I seem stuck at this screen. The launcher does not finish loading. I'm beginning to wonder if there is some corruption of the game file(s), although from a disconnect I don't know why. I may have to re-install (/shudder).

Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions? Is there a form of client fixing program like WOW has that I'm unaware of?

EDIT: One really important item, go into Internet Explorer and make sure it isn't set to Offline. Even if you don't use IE the launcher DOES. :) Also make sure you can get to http://www.startrekonline.com from IE.

It looks like they did a mini patch on the launcher, I received the same message but it finished within a few seconds and continued to the launcher login screen.

A few things to check on your side.
    • Make sure you right click the STO launcher icon and choose Run as administrator.
    • Check to see if your antivirus or antispyware program is blocking star trek online.exe from accessing the internet.
    • See if there is a User Account Control (UAC) prompt on your taskbar.

Okay, I've disabled my anti-virus. I right clicked and ran as administrator. There are no additional prompts/windows on my taskbar. 6 Minutes later I'm still at the white "loading" screen...

Can you get to http://www.startrekonline.com with Internet Explorer? Do you have IE8 installed, even if you don't use it?

    WOW!

I wondered at your suggestion of using IE. I use Firefox. I gave you the benefit of the doubt and fired up IE to go to the website. Strangely it said it was unavailable offline so I clicked connect (even though I currently had this window up in firefox....) Then I restarted STO and it works!

    Why is that?

Thank you thank you sir! :)

I also use Firefox, but STO uses IE for the launcher. One of the devs wants to get it moved over to something else in the future, but it's one of those items not very high on the priority list.

actually the launcher uses the MSHTML component it just easier to control that through IE if there is a problem with MSHTML.

Try disabling IE cookies and see what happens to the launcher :D
