Just waiting for my STO install to back up before i install my new HDD and Win 7. Figured while i wait i would see if there's any special hoops i have to jump through to make STO and Windows 7 play nice together? I used the RC of 7 and quite liked it, just never got to test STO on it.

Anyone had issues with it?

Excellent to hear. All the Vista user permission stuff annoyed me mightily. I have a drink coaster vista dvd as a result and am still using XP currently.

I setup an XP and Windows 7 partition for testing STO. I normally play in W7 and I have yet to find a problem with STO that is limited to Windows 7, I can duplicate every problem I have had in XP. My only exception was a BSOD problem but that turned out to be an old NIC driver not really a STO problem, once I updated that in W7 it seems to run fine.

Might be too late for you but...

If you back up the hkcu/software/cryptic registry hive, you won't have to reinstall STO. You would just restore the program files directory and apply the registry key. I just went through a full reinstall of 7 after the eval expired on March 1 and this worked just fine. The only thing that I needed to do was re-create the launcher shortcut.

You dont need to back up the reg file really. It works perfectly just copying the folder.

Yeah this is how i have done it in the past with both CO and STO (i re-did my XP install a week odd back - i am a habitual PC clean up kind of person). and i've never had a problem.

Don't install STO in Vista or Windows 7 Program Files directory, the default c:\users\public would be fine.

Make sure you have current network adapter drivers, there have been issues with Windows 7 and the original Microsoft Windows 7 driver for some.

I finally found the dev post on it that mentioned the registry. The registry only contains advanced command line parameters (who uses those?) and language settings (both easily recreated).

As far as the registry, if you move STO to a different directory and the registry still has pointers to your old directory, the launcher will attempt to patch about 10GB. If you update the registry entries with the correct location this is resolved. :D
