Occasional Blue Screen of Death (Windows 7 and ATI card)

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
On occasion I get a Blue screen of death. Since its a BSOD I am not sure what i can do to determine what the actual problem is. What info do i need to paste here to help determine what is causing it. When i get home today i will post my dxdiag, and other info. but if there is any specific Windows 7 BSOD files that get created please let me know. I will verify tonight that my ati drivers are up to date.

I did find this youtube video that someone posted that shows a sto caused bsod. If it happens again I'll try to compare that screen to the one i get.

bsod can litteraly be caused by 100's although if you have the same graphics card and drivers installed its possible you have the same problem.
without more info then theres not an awful lot anybody can suggest, other than try the latest drivers, update directX or maybe try older drivers which can on occasion be required

few things that can be telling with a bsod are:
does it always happen when you try the same thing?
does it always name the same error and same file or are one or both different?

with win7 you can on occasion read what the bsod error is or what caused it in event viewer, usualy you will see a 'your machine has recovered from a crash' popop after restarting your machine, if theres nothing in the eventvwr next time you get a bsod look for text that looks similar to
    "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"
bellow that it may name a file we will need both of those to help.

if the text is missing there will be a stop code we will need at least the first number block which means the same as the text above
    STOP:0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

if your machine is still set to store crash dump loggs then you could try a tool called 'who crashed' which will analyse the crash logs and tell you what caused the bosd. you can always cut and paste the most recent bosd errors as well

looks like your graphics drivers failed to recover from a time out, hopefuly the new drivers will fix the issue.
remember to run something like driver cleaner\sweaper to remove the old drivers first before instlaling new ones

I would recommend lookng at this thread on the AMD forums as it goes quite indepth into possible causes with some possible fixes

thanks. for you guidance. If the problem persists, or if I go a while without any bsod's then I'll post here.

PS. I also updated my mobo drivers last night. I was 2 versions behind on that.
