Could be many reasons why this is happening to you. Your best bet would be to post this in the Tech section with a run down on your system and net connection, as well as a DXDIAG. One of the whizzes there might be able to figure it out. My only other suggestion is, next time you're in the launcher click options and make sure proxy is turned to NONE. I doubt that's the problem, but it's all I got to offer. G'luck.

I wish you luck as I have had none, I ran their tool and show everything wide open and still have problems.

I have ports forwarded on my router (the same ones the tool checks) and no software firewall or AV running while playing..

    still no love...

    Good luck

Been there, done that. Leaving now.

*apologizes for not being more constructive with solutions - simply because I don't know any short of pointing the finger to Cryptic/Atari - being an ICT specialist having no network issues with anything BUT STO...*

This maybe a problem with your end. I have not had a disconnection since they brought in the extra capacity the first week after launch and I am on 12 - 16 hrs a day.

I have had the same experience as you. I have never been disconnected for anything other than the STO server going down, whether that be due to the server crashing or Cryptic taking the server down for maintenance.

I can understand people getting frustrated with being disconnected, and I have no doubt their disconnects are real, but there are so many factors involved, sometimes there is not an easy solution.

Any of the following could cause disconnects: antivirus, firewall, router, network card, network cable, modem, ISP equipment, the gateway the ISP is connected to, any of the equipment involved with the internet routing back to Cryptic's server, Cryptic's hardware, Cryptic's software, and/or anything I left out.

The last time I had a lot of random disconnects was about 2 years ago. After checking out all my hardware I started hammering my ISP. On their 3rd trip out the tech actually saw a signal drop out an the main junction box, well below being able to transmit/receive to the cable modem, but high enough for the status lights on the modem to not detect a problem (plus TV and all channels were unaffected). Long story short, the tech said he'd get someone out to repair the junction box ASAP, and I was like "finally", but as I stood there listening to the tech report the problem to head-quarters a look of dismay came across the tech's face and mine (because I could hear the other end of the conversation). The tech was told what he saw was impossible, that he did the test wrong, and that there was nothing wrong with the junction box. So I told the tech his boss was an idiot, which I'm sure he already knew, thanked him for his time, and went in the house canceled the service.

I have not had one problem since I switched ISPs. And now that I think about it, the best part of this story is, my next-door neighbor was and still is having the exact same problem. Why they choose to not switch IPSs, I have no clue. They are still connected to the same faulty junction box and in the past 10 days they have had a service truck parked in their driveway 3 times. How many times can they be fed the same load of TRIBBLE -- it's your modem, it's your wiring, NIC card, yada, yada, yada -- and still believe it.

    /facepalm

I can play every MMORPG out there with no lag and framerates of 60+ but I get server disconnects in STO. Must be my system. Nevermind this game has had a history of server disconnects since open beta.

PS: the extra capacity was never put in. They said they were going to one weekend and never did. Stability has gotten better because a lot less people are logging in now.

Turn off any Proxy connections you might have done. I live in the EU and had the same problem. Turned of my Proxy Setting and Walllaaa......No more problems

Two things I left out... proxy settings, if any, and the geographic location in which you live

The only time Ive ever had server disconnects is when the server has crashed and kicked everyone off.
    i.e. very rarely

yes it was they switched the test server to join up with the main server. Thats why they are just now opening up a new test server.

How very nice for you. There are still quite a few people who are experiencing this issue. Now that the number of people logging in has gone down things have gotten much better. I still get the "server disconnect" message but now it just hangs there and eventually it sends me to wherever I was headed. It just takes me longer. Of course it has gotten me kicked out of a group or 2 as by the time I'm in the system they are normally working on the second objective.

Not true at all. We did two large orders of new hardware, and added all of that hardware to the shard at the end of open beta and during the first week after launch. We also made numerous performance improvements to the software.

I have been looking at the disconnect problem that plagues some people when switching maps. I have a few ideas, but nothing really concrete yet. But we will keep working on it until it gets resolved.
