Just got the game, and wow am I having problems. Mainly figuring out how to configure my rig to get connected. I've had to remove my AV software and place my computer in a DMZ while adding outgoing rules to my windows Firewall. Finally the launcher (test#8) is working. However, after spending almost 36 hours downloading the game, I now have about 2gb more to "patch". I've noticed that the patch speed (not actually shown on the launch window) is fairly slow, but when I press "X" after submitting my password and look at the transfer window I notice some text that I hope someone can explain.
What do the following mean and should the numbers be static or flashing on and off the screen with different numbers?
1. 100/100 transfers ? I'm assuming number of transfers going on in the window at the moment.
2. net_bytes_free=488/500KB - No idea what this means.
3. Received - Nothing is ever in here.
4. Actual - Numbers come and go and are always changing. However they are normally in a x/x/x format.
5. Link - Same as above.
6. (Not on the Transfer window, but still want to know) What do the Proxy settings actually do? EU vs US, what's the difference? I ask because I live in Europe, so I'm not sure if I should be using the EU one or the US one or which should/would give me a faster speed.
Any information you can provide would be great.
Trouble-shooting I've done so far has included: Updating NIC drivers, turning off firewall, adding rules to firewall(windows no software firewall installed), configuring my router (DL-DLG4100) and putting my computer into a DMZ, then turning off the firewall.
I'm using Windows 7, 64-bit. And all of my hardware is above the recommended.
Unless you are me, most of that info is meaningless ;-)
(checks wallet and ID) Nope, definitely not you. However, I would still like to know to help with my troubleshooting of the connection. I've been patching for 30 minutes and I haven't even hit 1% yet....so unless these items are part of Star Fleet's classified programs, could you please share?
Uninstall or disabling a firewall is a very temporary test, one I don''t recommend actually. All you need to do is confirm the applications for STO can connect from your PC outbound to the server and to make sure there aren't any restrictions on the TCP ports STO uses (outbound also). By default Windows firewall in XP SP2 through Windows 7 will allow your outbound connections just fine and you may get a prompt to allow the specific STO exe files to access the internet.
Third party security suites are a different issue of course, but all of those should easily allow you to monitor if the application can connect to the internet or if it is blocking the application/ports. If it doesn't perhaps you should use one that does.
What people do run into that causes them grief is third party application firewalls installed that they didn't notice when installing chipset drive suites, previously configuring port forwarding on their router for other systems causing conflicts with needed ports, etc. Also some of those registry "tweaks" they've read about to speed up their internet connection or game a year or two ago and forgotten about.
Well, as I mentioned I was getting a very slow download rate. So after 30 minutes and only having 1% of the patch done I decided to leave it for the night. I've just returned to these error messages so if someone could explain I would appreciate.....positive side- it did get to 14%, so that must have been quite a while later.

Well, got home from work and it was "supposedly" done. But now when I try to run the program it just crashes. The solution it tells me is to verify the files, so I re-run the launcher, press C, and I see that every file is corrupt. So it starts downloading them all again......
Yes, I am aware that each computer is unique and no one could possibly design things to work on every type.
Yes, I am aware that there are 1,000's of player's who are easily accessing and playing this game.
Yes, I am aware that I live on the other side of the ocean so I should expect slow downloads.
BUT COME ON!!!!!!
Seriously!? (sigh)
Very frustrated at the moment. Bought the game 3 nights ago, and still haven't been able to play it.
So now I'm trying the torrent ----> which brings me to my question:
After I DL this torrent, will it need to be patched or it's the "ready-to-go" torrent and fully updated?
So, 4 hours and 45 minutes in and I've got 2.4% of this torrent down......Again, fully aware it's no one's fault but my own connection/computer......but misery loves company, and boy am I ****ed off at the moment......(sigh)
