just wondering what use the music player is. it seems not to have a function at the mo
it does work. You have to have either win amp (I think that's what the other is...can't really remember since I don't use that particular program) or iTunes on before starting the function.
Once iTunes is started go back in-game and start the music player and you can hear whatever play list you have going.
Actually I personally find a bit of heavy metal serves better for blasting
Definitely.
My suggestion? "Laser Cannon Deth Sentence", by Dethklok. It's actually pretty perfect. When the Cardassians turn tail and try to flee as the "DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DIE!!!" begins, the effect is truly sublime.
In between combats, though, I've been favoring techno (anything Underworld, with Fatboy Slim's "Sunset (Bird of Prey)" for hunting Klingons) for in-system travel, and Stone Temple Pilots' "Interstate Love Song" for the long slog out to the nebulas.
I use Winamp, but guess the process is the same for iTunes:
1, At your liesure, make a playlist in Winamp.
1(a), Start Winamp
2, Start playing your playlist (set repeat / random as you wish)
3, Start STO lancher and Engage!
4, Once you get past Log in and are playing, go to the audio options and select Winamp as your music (media?) player and save / exit options
5, Start the ingame music player and enjoy your playlist while gaming - music player allows playlist manipulation
As I do not have iTunes, I can only speculatet that you can adapt the process for said.
You can set your default player in the Options -> Audio tab. The bottom line, "Media Player", has a drop down menu to select your player.
After the default is set then clicking the Media Player menu text in the game will automatically start your selected Media Player and pull up the control window.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems simpler to just turn down your music volume and use iTunes/Winamp normally. Unless the music player can play certain songs at certain times. Like heavy metal during space battles, yakety sax during your time at Earth Spacedock, and Free Bird during ground missions.
anyone have the problem of the music sounding all staticy from time to time? normally for me it gets really bad while loading a new instance of something or alot of activity going on during whatever i am doing at the time. im not sure if it's due to high CPU usage or bad drivers...
2 the captain should be able to play the music on the bridge/ship for the rest of the people there
I doubt any mmo provider wants to open this can of worms, between simple strain on the server infrastructre to copyright BS (esp with STO having its entire playerbase on the same servers regardless of country, even WoW has seperate servers and clients for Europe, China, Taiwan and S Korea)
does it change songs to suit whats going on autiomatically or do u have to do it or can u change the songs yourself in the game..although i do use duel screens ,,,,

Thing is, you can play / pause / skip track forward or back with the music player without leaving game or dual screening.
Playing certain songs at certain times, more specifically during certain events, would maybe require the music player to allow multiple libraries / playlists; each setup by the player and activated accordingly by the client.
Lets allow Cryptic to get the current faults rectified before working on a feature like that!
Good idea though.
Also,
"It was a mark of true genius to not support the one media player guaranteed to be on every windows PC"
That was probably a licensing / contract issue whereby Cryptic would have had to pay big bucks to implement the use of that player. Or maybe Cryptic thought that the other players (the ones they use) are more versatile regards user base and the OSs / systems that expected games user base would be using!
You don't need to start your music player before you enter the game.
In the options set winamp or itunes as your default player then you just need to click the media player button on your hud and it will open and start the player itself. You can also type /itunes or /winamp.

Works quite well with winamp!
Now if they only got the social networking (twitter/facebook) thing working.
I asked a dev about that in a PM. No one has been albe to answer yet on how it works, other than what I already figured out in-game.

Nothing like blasting Dark Moor and referring to it as 'Classic Earth Music'.
(They did a lot of power metal covers of classical music.)
works great with winamp.
Electro-Industrial is the best for space combat:D
Definitely.

Hope this helps some of you.

1 it should work with more music players (i'm lobbying for songbird myself)
2 the captain should be able to play the music on the bridge/ship for the rest of the people there
i would love to see a console with the meta data on it too but that might be asking a bit much.
also the Ghost in the Shell and Shin Megami Tensi: Nocturne soundtracks combined make for the weirdest trance mixes ever

The best Sci-Fi tracks ever are from Flash Gordon (depending on your mood I guess).
Nothing like staring down the nose of a Klingon battlecruiser while hearing A boy named Sue
We got velocity, next stop atrocity!!!
Nazareth 'Hair of the dog'
"Now your messing with a ......" Sounds great in combat! (Like BOC DFTR it could use more cowbell though!)
It's not a disaster as I have a G19 so have media keys but it's kinda useful having it on screen too.
