I was just wondering if it is at all possible to change the short name of my BO's. I managed to do so once (when I first got them), but now I can only change their full names, which costs a silly amount.
I know how to rename them, but it doesn't seem to work for the short name, and no error messages are shown as to why. I can change their full names with no issue, but the short names I was only able to change when I first got the BO's.
I have a question related to this: Why is the cost of changing the short name so much more expensive than their proper name? You'd think changing a guys nickname wouldn't need to cost much/anything.
The fact that it defaults to someone's first name for the short name (its absurd to imagine someone calling Captain Picard, Captain Jean-Luc, but that's how the game sets it right now) is also irritating.
I missed that on one of my BOs and then when I went to change it, it cost 3000 merit points. So I discharged the officer. Better to buy another one on the exchange and retrain the skills.
Maybe you don't have enough merits/honor to pay the name-change.
Or you chose a name with less than 3 letters.
I am sure it works, since I did it before.
That's what I originally thought as well, but I have tried to make a 2000 credit long name change when I didn't have enough credits, and the cost was listed in red. For the short name change the cost always says that the first change is free, but it won't let me change it more than that first time. I type in the new short name and click okay and nothing happens, no error message and no red price listing prior to clicking okay.
I don't understand why BO name changes are so expensive. You, the player, are the only one who benefits from their names, because you spend most of your time with them. I can't possibly see how changing their names frequently could be seen as griefing or obtaining an unfair advantage in the game. Changing the player name, I understand... But BO's? They really, really need to be much more lax on the cost to rename them. Especially when you notice a typo... It's usually cheaper to fire him or her and recreate them from scratch...
...Which when you think about it, should be more expensive.

I'd have to say I completely agree with this.
