So I have waited for this game for years, loved the process of getting to Rear Admiral 5. Not a big fan of PVP because the wait times are unacceptable for a five or six minute enemy encounter, so with that said klingons are out of the equation for me, and coming from open beta the idea of starting a new character does not appeal to me, I've invested in my current character, spent time getting him skilled and trained with a great ship... but... now I'm a rear admiral 5. There is no additional content other than PVP and doing explore defend missions over and over and over again.... so my question is simple... This game is not set up to be 'open' and during the mission process its very linear, meaning every player goes through the same set of missions - how can this game sustain itself beyond a month, so why is it a MMO and not a good single player game with various expansions as time goes on... Even with the announcment of Raidisodes being released it won't be enough, as they intend to release them one every couple weeks and they take all of a couple hours to complete, which means for weeks on end I find myself sitting outside DS9 with nothing to do but wait for a PVP battle that will last only minutes... HOW are the makers of this game going to make it sustainable for players like me month after month... Its not exactly a monthly charge that is on the lower end of the MMO scale so great things are expected... for 16 dollars a month I want a brand new mission arc every week, to keep me engaged and interested...
Why is this game not a big galaxy with thousands of stars with thousands of worlds and thousands of missions, where my experience isn't identical to my buddy's..?
This game is too linear and too confined with choice to be a viable MMO with sustainability..
This game needs to open up, offer choice, and experiences that are unique to each players choices and path...
I JUST DO NOT see how 16 dollars a month is justified, at least if I paid 60 dollars up front for a single player game I would be able to play it whenever I want but with this game as is I can't even load it up and have a single player experience which makes me think I've thrown my original sixty dollars out the door as once my suscription is cancelled the game is useless...
I suggest to whoever reads this that can make a difference to consider what I've said and open the game up to unique experience with choice... you've built a great fun game, but it only lasts a month... and should be single player...
I suggest you fix this problem while you still have the 'cash flow' to effect change, cause as more and more people get to Rear Admiral 5 and relize that the game has ended and that PVP - the only option at that point - is not worth the wait times affiliated with PVP... more and more will stop paying..
You got my sixty dollars and you might get a month charge of 16, but if this game remains as is with the hope of an additional mission every couple weeks, it will be the last of my cash you have to add to your flow and I'm sure in talking with most players I'm not alone.
One or two missions every couple of weeks is simply not enough...
YOU MAY want to add timeframes in with your announcments as if you ever tell us specfics I might not be as angry as I log in each and everyday to see if a new update is added.. I would probably accept the timeline and plan my life accordingly...
This is one guy who has really enjoyed the first month of this game, and who really wants to love this game who will stop playing this game if its not fixed.. as more and more reach admiral 5, you will have less and less cashflow to help you... fix it now before its too late!!
Are you one of those people that wants everything to go like you want it to. This game lacks, no surprise there, but that's because it's only a month old almost. I didn't expect a huge endless universe in STO, and people who did are thinking too far; like you said STO has a cash flow atm and that cash will provide to things beyond GU1.
I too was disappointed in the lack of "Explore strange new worlds" when all the stuff in STO atm are places we already know lol, but hey, but I don't make "STO sucks" threads because of that (not saying this thread is). Just wait it out a little, GU1 is going to have you busy for a bit till GU2
But this will only happen if you don't rush things.
Oh and about pvp, how long does it take you to load into a queue? Usually when I'm on I only have to wait a minute if even (are you not in the US?).
And what's with people saying Cryptic should lower their already low universal monthly fee of $15 ? Do people want a lack of money rev.?
First of all, I am not saying it sucks, and have done nothing but give praise for my experience thus far...
My question and ultimate confusion is what is going to make this game sustainable beyond my 'free' month.
As I stated I loved my experience so far, and ultimately want to love this game alot, otherwise I would delete it and move on with life. I just wish my experience didn't come to an abrupt hault, and wish I had specfic information as to new updates and when and what so that I am not logging in and out everyday to check. Telling me its coming isn't good enough.
Player vs Player on average takes twenty minutes to get into a match, with three matches in waiting... then the battle lasts minutes. I can think of better uses for my time, considering this is my only option for playing this game other defend explore missions over and over. With such a big galaxy of potential I do not believe I'm in error of expecting more. And if that more is sometime in the future, when!
Do not confuse my message as angry, biter or 'bad mouthing' cryptic, its a hope to get them to see it from my perspective and ultimately improve it.
Again, Wanting nothing more than to love this game going forward as I have loved it over the past month
I just finished my Second RA. I am thinking I want to finish my third RA before Death Penalties go into place. Death Penalties and other time sinks that will be put in place because people got to the end and started complaining.
If THEY release one new story arc every 2 weeks, that will make 26 extra mission of very long length by next February. Plus more Klingon stuff, and (someday) Romulans.
THEY are thinking they released the game when they had to. THEY are adding content and fixing bugs at a good clip. THEY are releasing a 45-day free content patch.
Give THEY a break, at least until the big patch comes out.
They have already postponed said patch once, on a whim without any information when it can be expected.
Wrong patch. The 45-day patch has never been delayed. Mostly because we haven't approached the 45-day mark yet. The patch you're thinking of was more of a run of the mill mid-week odd Thursday patch with bug fixes and stuff. And Cryptic did provide an explanation in the Dev Tracker. It was postponed because they found that it created a big break so they held it back instead of putting it in and getting more complaints -- which they got anyway.
Btw, complaining about lack of content post-RA5 is *so* last week. :P

Oh no. It wasn't on a whim. They've spent an in ordinate amount of time and resources on it. Conducted extensive research. Hired the best consultants that money can buy. They postponed the patch just to antagonize the player base. They calculated the optimum amount of time for the player anticipation to be at it's peak. And postponed it to affect the most players for maximum effect. From what I can they did it just perfectly. Good show Cryptic.

Edit: I think I was channeling Garak when I wote this post. I can almost hear him say it...

Nothing right now.
BUT: If you read the 'State of the Game' address, and have been following the devs (or just reading the dev tracker) you will get some idea of what they WILL be doing to make this game sustainable for a month sub. You may want to sit out a few weeks while they get content in so you can enjoy it rather then wondering when the next installment comes out.
As far as PvP wait times; click the missions with very low numbers. I get in almost instantly, esp. with hand to hand. Klingons have an even easier time since they fight amongst themselves. Almost never a wait when you're a Klingon.
game has only been out a month, our free 30 days are almost up...
so why give new players a $10 off price and an additional 60 days... 90 days free?? that more than pays for the game... at least they got money off of us and the lifers... so they re gonna lose $5 per person that get the standard game and get's there 90 days, theres over 2 months that they can have a RA 5 on Federation and Klingon.
i saw the what are they thinking thing and went with my rant of the day.
as far as the game goes... the PVP and PVE is not strong enough to keep many players, the rewards are not all that great... i mean yeah some purple MK X stuff is nice... but at the rate that loot is dropping, its not all that rare anymore...
anyone else waiting for playable Romulans or even Vulcan ships!!
I'm thinking that I ate too much pasta for dinner, and I'm paying for it now.
I'm also thinking that given time and patience, the game is progressing in a direction I am liking.
It has it's faults, sure. But I am having fun, and that is what's important.

Stop telling us its coming, and tell us when to expect it... and half of players frustrations will vanish
