The Cryptic Launcher app at game activation isn't responding with the server have left it going 15 re-try's, and restarted the game a few times too, but none of it is working, anyone else getting a similar issue, or is it just me?

Look through my FAQ, you'll need to find out what is hanging the launcher on your end and if there is an error in your game log files to help us help you.
Similar issue. Starting the Cryptic Launcher and after a few seconds an error will pop up from Windows saying GameClient has crashed and it sends information.
Of course, when I bypass the launcher and load the game directly, when I attempt a log in the connection to the account server times out, so I am guessing the issue is popping up on the server again.
just to remove any doubt i turned off my firewall and any programs that could interfere with the game befour i posted on here, but still no change, have restarted modem as well as PC since then, i also tried something from the URL you posted "Cryptic network connectivity tool" it just said timed out. the game was working perfectly fine for over 2 weeks and nothing on or in my system has changed, drivers are up to date and nothing is faulty that i can tell, yet still can't get on..
The STO log files in the game install directory don't make much sense to me had look through them but could not see anything of use to help me work out why i can't get any kind of connection to the server, i could paste the last few line's from each log on here, if you think it would help, any advice?

What is the specific error? If you do not know, review my FAQ in the link above how to find it.

The game won't be able to function if the ports are blocked. The timed out from nettest show this. Please post the entire nettest to this thread. Examples are given in my FAQ also.

Looks like some failures in the force_verify.log - for the 100228 21:xx:xx time stamps, how many file failed do you have? If it isn't too many can you post those here please? Also a few lines above, you might have to delete a hogg file and re sync them.
100218 18:48:23 1 MasterControlProgram[1] ESC : The patchclientlib is returning error code : 29\nThe net comm was not able to create a link for the patcher
I have deleted and downloaded, reinstalled, force verified so many times I stopped keeping track.
Best guess is around 6 installations from DVD, 3 complete installs from Cryptic's launcher, and a dozen downloads of each individual hogg file.
For the total errors in the force_verify, it looks like... 40 for today. All are invalid checksum errors with the exception of two which are fail to load errors.
Additional info: I have taken to running the game in safe mode for the past week, as they let me play the game without all the random crashes due to corrupt hogg file errors constantly popping up.

Good, so we know ICMP is open to the Cryptic IPs and you get name resolution. I just did a packet capture of the nettest and it gets DNS of nettest.crypticstudios.com and then connects on TCP 80 (HTTP).
You are reporting nettest completely fails, so you might have a firewall or application firewall preventing it from connecting (ping works fine though).
I'd like you do to a telnet to the patch server to see if the port is open. You can install telnet client if it isn't on the system easily.

Not that I am aware of. It is a Gateway computer purchased from BestBuy.
It had a pretty sad video card that I had replaced upon purchase, so it was definitely not being tailored in any way to performance nuts.
Just checking, seems like you are getting a lot of read/write issues with the game files and I've seen corruption problems with people overclocking their FSB.
I started having problems when Open Beta ended and they released the 50mb patch to retail version. I had played flawlessly for several days at the end of OB then I started getting massive errors with the hogg files. I read about the overclocking bit, and have done my best to make sure that isn't the case, but I don't have a good way to cross check what the specs are.
I've personally suspected there is something with how Cryptic handles permissions, as I had to cancel my Steam pre-order when I encountered the error where Cryptic games won't run on Steam.
I had similar issues with Wolrd of Warcraft, but those were resolved by simply running the game as admin. Running as admin hasn't done a thing to help the problems with STO.

Might be worth taking the time to do a hard drive diagnostic run.
Already done two full chkdsks (once when WoW was acting up, once about two weeks ago when STO errors were getting out of hand) with no bad sectors or errors detected.
Did two full RAM tests with Memtest86+ with no errors.
Nettest is fine with no blocked ports, Norton has been switched to allow for everything related to STO programs.
I even tried using an external hard drive installation, hoping maybe my 1tb size harddrive was having issues with data retrieval, but still encountered the same issues.
second try - could not open connection to the host, on port 7255: connect failed
Interesting, so you used the same command twice "telnet patchserver.crypticstudios.com 7255", the first try you connected and received the error and then tried it again and failed?
I just tested ten times in a row and each one connected and gave me the error message like it should.
yep thats right, i have to go now thanks for your help so far will have to sort this tomorrow now, any other advice just post on this thread will check back tomorrow if you got any more idea's.. who knows what ever is causing this might just disapear, done that alot in past mmo's for me...
note just tried again 5 times each time it said error "bad connection header"
