Trial to retail

Hey guys,

Mainly looking for an answer from someone who knows more on this topic or have done this already.

A friend is interested in playing STO, if I gave them the trial key (5-day buddy invite) can they then add a subsciption to that account or would they need to go buy a retail copy and start from scratch?

They're not really interested in the idea if they have to wipe the character and start all over again from the 5day buddy trial to retail.

Cheers for any light one may shed on this subject.

like all other mmo's on the market that do offer a free trial, they would have to go out and buy the game and then set up their sub for the game, but they would be able to keep whatever account they used for that key if they so chose to do so

I did the 2 day Del Taco thing, when my time ran out I just put in my retail key and continued slaying klingons. Everything was still there.

Your friend will have an opportunity to upgrade his trial account by purchasing the retail version and adding the retail key to his account. I suspect that there is even an easy button on a trial account's account info that links to a retail key purchase.

Remind your friend that there is a special right now for 60 extra free days (that makes three months for free) if he buys the game for $49.99 (EDIT: $39.99 actually; thanks for the correction). The special ends on March 3.

Don't tell any of the guys lurking around about the special, or they might flip their ****. Oh, wait...

Its actually $39.99 *cough* which suprisingly makes it less than a 3 month subscription?? (41.97)

    /boggles

Maybe the subs are coming down? :D
