Hi i came to play sto this morning and to my supprise the launchers not coming up, i have the icon in the tray and task bar but no launcher to open and sign into the game, pls help i need my sto fix
You need to make sure there isn't a firewall, anti-virus program (including application firewall client on your PC), or lack of admin rights blocking the launcher update.
ok i still can accsess the launcher, i've made sure my firewall is excepting gameclinet.exe and startrekonline.exe i have been playing since launch with no problem
i have managed to load up the gameclinet.exe and get to the nera the toon selector but it says connection timed out, But still unable to get the launcher up this is the 2nd day stright now and im dying to play some sto, please can some one help me i miss my game
I added quite a lot of new content to my FAQ that I linked yesterday. If the launcher is showing up in the task bar are you able to alt - tab to it or able to open task manager and switch to it from there?
It could be something as simple as you have IE set to work offline or it doesn't work. That was added in the FAQ.
At the bottom of my post in the link is a test launcher from Dev SuperMartin - try that and see if it gets you past your issue.
ok a little bit of an update now if i rightlick in windows XP RUN AS if i click on the top one WITH PROTECTION i get the launcher but it the crash's while attempting to patch the patch test 7-8 both not working for me i really need to get this sorted what else could it be???,

What are the errors in your crash log? Those are also in my FAQ
Also, you should try running it without the protection option and choose the administrator user instead of your regular login (the second option below).
Current user (phoenix-77dac08\phoenix) plus ticked on PROCTEC MY COMPUTER AND DATA FROM UNAUTHORIZED PROGRAM ACTIVITY i get the launcher but it crash's if i dont tick it the launcher WILL not open, done this with the test launcher too and nothing
BUT with the test one i get a debuggin consoul witch says this
Assertion failed

Ah ha! You have the game in the c:\windows directory
Move the entire directory (the game) out of Windows to a different location, "c:\cryptic studios", for example.
Note: If you have the star trek online.exe file in the c:\windows directory and not a sub directory, you would have to move it and the other STO files also.
ok i was runnin the test launcher from desktop the game is installed where it should be, now i've moved the test launcher and i still cant get it to open, using run as with proctetion again i got this - if it means anything

Run the launcher with administrator, running in protection means it doesn't have admin rights (just like running it normally from the icon). You will need the admin password on your system to do so.
i gave up and reinstalled but it didnt work still - i have no admininstrator password on my system i have no passwords at all??? care to explain wat the password might be??

Log on as an administrator
Published: September 7, 2006
Microsoft Windows XP has two types of user accounts: limited and computer administrator. Limited accounts are more secure because they offer some protection from spyware and viruses. For that reason, you should use a limited account for your day-to-day computing. For more information about user accounts, read Set up user accounts and log on to your computer.
ok i already am the computer admininstraot - now if i load it it still sits on the task bar and in the dock at the end with no launcher to log into - i decided to uninstall and reinstall my modem driver's no diffrent, i have made sure i have complete accsess to it from my firewall's point of view, hell i even turned them off including the antivirus just incase and still nothing - wtf is going on im so stumped
You keep saying you are using the default Run with protection option, which you simply don't want to use. You want to give it admin rights, not limit it. Are you testing with both it on and off or something and if so, why?
im having too no matter what other way i try i can't even get the launcher to show, BUT with protection at least it open's just crash's as it tries to patch i've completely uninstalled it now 100% and im reinstalling again im thinking maybe it could been a currupt patch thats stopped it???? i'll soon find out - god i hope not i really am so close to commander and i want to get it now i have a week off work
If you are giving the launcher admin rights and it sits on the task bar but doesn't bring it to the foreground for you to see, it sounds like an applicaiton on your system is preventing it.
This could be antivirus software, an application firewall program (NVidia chipset driver installs sometimes have an NVidia application firewall), or the port is getting blocked.
If you want to see what is happening at a network level you can do a packet capture with Wireshark on your system (if you don't have advanced tools to do a packet capture outside of your PC).
Close all other programs so you elliminate the network traffic and start the capture just before running the launcher. You should see DNS traffic and then connection attempts to the 208 cryptic servers (.25 is the patch server) on tCP 7255. It will also use HTTP (TCP 80) to download the content of the launcher login page.
Did you already look for corresponding date and time stamps in the STO log files?
its cool it's fixed, Thank you so much for trying to help i really do appricate it it was more than deffently some Currpted patch on my end as the second i cleaned it out the game launcher opened fine its just downloading a gig of patch now ouch thats going to kill my bandwidth lol thanks again mate really apricate it
