The game as a story is great, interesting plots missions from the admirals, quick easy repeatable PvE missions. But my question is where is the roleplaying, the player base creativity.
Yes i love the bridge and few planets we can beam down too. great for out of combat RP with a friend or two.
Perhaps the rest of the ship would help and give us more options. Given the bridge loads its own instance we dont have to worry about tracking anything in the game world. There are missions with the proper texture's and models that it would not be too far fetched to expect a full ship interior would not be too hard to recreate. I personally dont ask for accuracy because i wouldn't know the difference. but a few friends of mine would complain some room it out of place just because they knew.
Having a ship interior could prove great for roleplaying and even ship boarding action's. Internal consoles that pump out random missions that have to deal with the interior of your craft or its personal. like the "Genesis" system Cryptic speaks of for the explore missions but only dealing with the ship and its personal.
I understand repeatable missions are soon to come, Wonderful. As i had planed on using this to incorporate some roleplaying. Given i have played the mission of system X, i know the events, rebuild a few logs and reasons and give someone a new objective in the mission. IE help the stranded ship in addition to the primary mission. In this line of thought i know city of hero's and villains made a mission builder. i feel something like this with the a few simple tools provided to the player could make a seemingly finite galaxy far more infinite.
Im not asking for instant results, but something to mill over.
Give creative players the ability to help STO evolve.
I would love to hear other ideas from people who enjoy roleplaying, and what they would add to the game to give it that special feel.
I would be very very pleased if we could control our bridge officers, telling them to move where we like out of combat on the bridge as we can in combat, but also in or out of combat being able to /[officername]say and [officername]emote.
We put a lot of work into our bridge crew, would be nice to have them be able to greet guests on the bridge for example, salute, shoot a comment about something on the main viewscreen, whatever we like as we make them talk and emote.

That's all I can say.
Our Administration Division (Task Force Fontana) is centered on QUALITY roleplay. Our Division Commander is a writer and long-life mature adult Trekkie. We like to introduced player-created story lines for our RP members (and guests -- you don't have to be in our fleet to play along!).
This Friday/Saturday (26th - 27th) we are hosting our own 'episodic content.' Why don't you come check it out and see if you'd be interested in touching base with some of our members? Everyone is welcome.
I role play all the time. Would like to have more control over my BO's. In the explore missions I have my regular away team and then 2 others with mostly science or engineers depending on the mission. Its a bit silly doing a scanning mission on a planet and all my BO's are running around with weapons drawn. I would like to see an option for BO's to also holster weapons and maybe to instruct one to do the scanning.
Captain: Commander, put away that weapon, your a scientist not a tactical officer.
Science Officer: But Captain, I'm paranoid, everybody is trying to kill me!
Yesterday I saw two people roleplaying, seems it was about accepting someone into a fleet. I haven't met anybody to roleplay with so far.
While it's not directly linked to group roleplaying, but I second that we should be able to move our officers at least to certain stations on the bridge. I declared one of my tactical officers the helmsman and gave her a red uniform, because she has Attack Pattern Omega and sometimes sits at the helm station. When I entered the bridge the next time she stood by a wall.
Another nice thing would be to control which officers show up with which messages. For example I would now like to see my secondary tactical officer more often.
Roleplay exists, usually in RP fleets. The problem with having only one server is that you get people who not only don't want to RP, but also tend to go out of their way to disrupt RP. Even when RPers look for the most secluded spot on a planet like Risa or Vulcan, someone of the latter group somehow finds where they are and then attempts to find ways to 'grief' them. So, roleplayers usually end up going to somebody's bridge, and then no one else can get in on the RP.
As said before, there are roleplay fleets. Otherwise, you can also join the RP chat channels. There was a list somewhere, maybe someone can point to the topic. I personally use "Roleplayers" (mostly Fed, IC/OCC) and a bit ago, a friend and I made a KDF channel, "KDFRP".
You could also look up STOGeek and create a profile for your character, ship,... to get in touch with other roleplayers.

You should be pleased to know that on the Tribble test server (and therefore, coming up soon to the live server) there is a change that BO's will holster/draw their weapons following the lead of your captain. In addition, beaming onto bridges/starbases should have your weapon defaulted to holstered as well.

I would like to see this too, not so much for RP, but for creating machinima (which, I guess is kinda RP anyway...) using the /demorecord feature.

That is *fantastic*. I can't wait for that. Hopefully in the Season 1 update.
This game should have been built from the ground up on roleplay. I cannot think of any other fan base who can so easily immerse themselves into their characters. I am not a die hard trekkie, I simply loved the original series reruns as a little kid and never stopped loving the genre. I have played many mmo's, but I couldnt really roleplay those sword and board characters very well. With Star trek it's almost too easy to roleplay.
This should have been the roleplayer's mmo. But your not going to find many people who will roleplay on vent, or roleplay during hectic, focus driven content. Roleplay requires a slower paced, story driven, content that simply isn't here.
I still remember one time in vent in DAoC when that cute elfin chick spoke in a deep East Texas baritone drawl....I never could look at her the same way after that.
Giving more thought to the Tamarainians (Isn't that Starfire of Teen Titan's fame race?) i think it would be great fun trying to think of confusing statements dealing with various mythologies to speak in.

A number of devs said they were really looking forward to a bit of roleplay prior to release if I remember correctly. I suppose thats why I was a bit shocked when there was so few features geared towards them. I have stated in the past the ability to move around and even remove bridge officers from your bridge would be a great feature.
They are adding some new emotes that are being tested on tribble as well, probably with season 1. I used to RP a couple years ago but lost interest, tried to get back into it but never have been able to. Maybe when STO gets a few more features geared towards this I will get into it again.

Good luck with that. Apparently if you didn't bring friends from another game with you, you can pretty much count on being mostly ignored by the other RPers.
There is the Roleplayers channel. There is also RP that happens nightly at Quarks.
And I think at last count, there are four Orion girls...
Just goes to show, where there's a will, there's a way. This is one of the easier games to roleplay in, though. But, even in those games which weren't really conducive to it, the Roleplayer's still managed to get their fix in and did it quite convincingly.
And the galaxy can always use more Orion girls, just not all the semi-dressed homicidal ones I've run into lately.
I've been surprised by the lack of RP that I've seen on space stations, etc.. I know there's some at Quark's on DS9 ever so often, but more often than not, the place is completely empty. I've ended up making Monday nights a roleplay night in my fleet, where we pick a public location and go RP there, hoping others will see us and join in. We've generated some interest, but not as much as I'd have hoped.
Being a casual rp'er, I have yet to find out where and more importantly when/ rp gatherings are held. It's often forgotten that this game is played by people around the world in various timezones, so I ask if anyone plans on announcing a planned session could they give the timezone they're working from.
Another thing, has anyone noticed the Observation Lounge on Sol Station? It seems to be an ideal rp locale as it's empty every time I go in. Plus, it's out of the way of those less desirable types who would seek to grief peeps rp.
Even on full-out RP servers of other games, RP is what you make of it. Don't like a lack of it, start something. Even something that's seemingly simple. For instance, you'll often see me, whenever I'm on a station, walking around everywhere I go. Mostly this just sparks the question, "How do you walk?" Sometimes, it'll spark an actual conversation.
Just find ways to stand out from the rest. You'd be surprised how the simplest things make a difference for how people approach you. A real name, whether your's or your ship's. A bio for your character. A uniform that doesn't look like you didn't just beam down from the USS Three Ring Circus. Then actually interact with people. Much of the time, even those who want to RP, but are new to it, need a little encouragement and coaxing to start. So give them that window.

Shakra, when the words spoken were clear as mud, with sails unfurled.
Err, excuse me, I meant,
At the circus, when the clowns tumbled! Babbel, when the tower fell!

Happiness!!!!
