When will more character slots be available?!

When are the developers planning on making more character slots available, and how will we be able to get them? I have 2 right now. That isn't enough to fully explore the types of officers or races!! It is rather frustrating! Seems rather short sighted on Crypitic's part, and I would think it miight impact people staying with the game.

It's been said before by a dev that the reason for the limited character slots is because of the massive amount of data that goes into just ONE character.
Its not just the data on your character, but also your Bridge Officers and multiple ships.

However, they did say they are working on a way to impliment more slots.

Many of the MMORPGs I have loved have had crippling character slot limitations: Star Wars Galaxies, Eve Online, and I believe Ultima Online-- though Ultima was like 5, while SWG and EVE were like 2. Granted, I could have had more than two on SWG if I played on completely different servers, but when I get to know a community, I like to stay there. On the whole, I am thankful that they at least let us have 3 characters, but I find this completely annoying also because:

    1. to experience different classes fully, I believe you have to play pretty far into the game with each

    2. I may have to delete characters I would have liked more to try new ones, only to rebuild them later

    3. I may have to shell out way more money a month to overcome items #1 and #2 by buying another subscription or buying additional character slots.

Despite this gripe, I am currently only using one of my character slots. I would perhaps try different alts in my other Federation slot, but my spouse has already "claimed" it. To be honest, I'm not even sure if I can have perhaps three Federation characters and no Klingon, or two Klingon and one Federation....

Regardless, at least I get to be the Klingon in the family. Qapah!

This is actually something we're currently working on. It's in the works.

    Thank you Phoxe!:D

Cant wait for this to come to fruition,I really would like a ground spec Klink to play with my shiny Bat'leth.
(even more so a kvk melee map/arena);)

I highly recommend Gorn for ground based Klingon character types. I've seen a certain GM who will remain nameless playing his ground-focused Gorn, and he tears guys to pieces.

As one Gorn player to another, how do you play your Gorn? Melee/Hand-to-Hand or distance/shooting? Or some other way?

I know Gorns are more set-up for Ground Combat, but wondering if I shoulda wasted my one "free choosable" trait on bite or not.

They have a good reason for the limitation in SWG. And originally it was just 1 character per server unless you got to Jedi. The reason is that you should not be able to be totally self sufficient. the crafting professions all need to get some components made by other crafting professions. if you could make all crafting classes it would make it trivial.

I fully support the addition of character slots.

    ...

What? My name didn't clue that in?

Seriously? Couldn't he just make an alien who doesn't have the TRIBBLE Gorn traits and can just take the good 1?

This explains why it is difficult for them to have more slots, it does not excuse the decision. Why should the customer care? An MMO customer has a perfect right, given what many other MMOs do, to expect more character slots. Cryptic made a conscious decision to design their game in such away as to require a lot of storage per character slot. The customer shouldn't suffer for that decision. Presumably marketing and engineering decided that this was an acceptable tradeoff. Customers can and should demonstrate otherwise if they so believe.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not in the business of bashing Cryptic and overall I'm enjoying this game and have subscribed to it. But this one aspect really bugs me.

Whilst happy with the response time, do we happen to have a rough ETA for delivery?

ie when roughly will this feature be available? Weeks/months?

Like a rough idea on when? Nothing specific, ballpark figures. Days weeks months? Waiting on marketing to work out the price? Next patch?! C'mon you know you want to. :P

I need more slots now, or I may wander off and never come back. I am willing to pay for them. 3 slots doesn't even come close to cutting it with the content available right now. If I can play with a bunch of alts that might just keep me busy while more content is added but I NEED SLOTS NOW.

Hint: For those happy (crazy?) enough to continue playing often, it would be prudent to release additional character slots sometime before it was possible to level all three available chars to maximum level.

Just a tip, cause I'm close.

Time is just about up. My main is stagnant at RA 5 and no klingons to PvP. Yes I can do the daily explore, but I'm not paying $15 a month to do that.

My CPT 4 Klingon has gotten boring. I'm not sure if I can grind those same tired PvP maps much longer.

My third slot is my character that I play together with my wife. I cannot delete or play this character except when she plays, and well, I guess the phrase 'STO, she's just not that into you' sums that up.

If I had more than 3 freaking character slots I could keep interest in this game. I don't, and I can't buy more, and Cryptic is too 'cryptic' to give me a clue about when I will be able too. I'm pretty close to just dumping this game and playing something else. :(

I purchased the one-year subscription plan specifically for the two additional character slots. My sympathy for someone who did not do the same: zero.

Yea? I purchased the lifetime subscription to Champions Online and I got stuff (including the STO mirror universe uniform that isn't available for females). Probably one of the most dumbest things I've ever done. My sympathy for you for making a similar mistake to get 2 character slots: considerable, despite your attitude.

We should have gotten a reasonable number of character slots with the game. Fine, we didn't, I'LL BUY SOME CHARACTER SLOTS IF YOU PUT THEN IN THE C-STORE. I don't think that is an unreasonable request.

Given this revelation (which makes perfect sense), what about a "special" BOff slot that is playable? The Del Taco... er... Type-8 shuttle is warp capable and would make a perfect platform for "ground" characters for extended away team missions. Maybe tack-on a couple of "randomized" redshirts that take up no memory space for missions that require an away team? I'd throw down some C-credits for that. (Even without the shuttle and away team.)

The extra slots will come in handy for being able to create BOff configs ahead of time. Well, at least one open slot for that.

I have 5 character slots on my account because of the Pre-Order Collector's Edition and I'm a lifer. I currenly have 4 slots take, but only really using 2 of those and 1 is my main character who I've spent about 95% of my time on so far.

comming from WoW I can honestly say of all the alts I did make I had 3 I actully spent time with, my 80 PAladin my 80 Hunter and my lvl 1 rouge bank toon, reason being I saw no point in more, its tedious and you can only realisticly focus one toon into endgame raiding while the others sort of collect dust lol

Charging more than $10 for more slots will cost customers.

$15 for an extra slot plus $15 for a months fee comes dangerously close to costing as much as the $39 to try a new different game that comes with a one month subscription plan attached. Some will like STO better and return after a month or three and some will like the new game better and will be gone forever.

If you do have to charge then include something very cool like a special weapon, or new unique custom ship only available to those that paid for extra slots. I would like a chance at Chromogenic Armor even though I hate steam and refuse to do business with them or that Neodynamic deflector dish.

Better yet, I would like something new and wonderful and better than most of the semi-lame low level beginner boosts that came with the preorder bonuses.

If I have to pay for the game, then pay for the monthly service fee for the game, then pay extra for the server space needed for slots for the game then I want something special along with my extra fees.

WOW achieved extraordinary success because they did not charge for extra slots. People worked harder at WOW because they had opportunity to try more new and more different things and it both helped keep the game fresh for them but also gave them a reason to keep paying monthly fees as they had good reason to want to preserve their efforts and hard work.

Removing incentive for people to spend time here by limiting character slots and/or charging more for them and thereby reducing incentive to stay put at home rather than explore other fields of gaming opportunity is hurtful to the player base on multiple fronts and I hope we dont see it.

If we do then we better get something great as an add on bonus for our investment.

Im guessing that hundreds of thousands of subscribers have already left the community after a month. Postings on the exchange seem slower and the skies seem emptier. We need more reasons to encourage people to stay rather than financial incentive to go elsewhere and stray.

Having added slots and options and reasons to keep exploring new avenues of build opportunity gives people a reason to stay and to continue to pay. And thats probably a good thing for Cryptic.

You charge more for slots then they better come with a superstar borg bridge officer / red matter capacitor type bonus or something as good or better than those things.

Im not sure that I would personally mind paying extra. I have loved Atari for years and Id like to see them avoid bankruptcy and stay around awhile. But I do mind reduced player base and we are starting to see player base reductions. My listings on the exchange are now taking days to sell instead of hours and I sell things for reasonable prices.

I flat out guarantee you that players have already started to leave and charging extra to keep players around and doing more builds and playing more characters isng going to help stop the exodus.

    Happy Prosperity All,

    :)
