This might sound like a dump question, but when opening the ports to see if this helps run the game, whats the name for the ports? Do you have to do them all individaully or can you place all the port numbers in using a coma between each port?
ports used by STO are
7001-7005
7224
7399
7499
all should be TCP outbound
if youuse a software firewall which creates rules for the STO exe's you may want to just add a range of 7000-7500 for those exes
but how you enter them into your firewall will depend on what firewall your using. documentation that comes with your firewall will tell you how to enter the ports
if your using windows firewall it should create the enteries for the exes only, you shouldnt need to change any ports

Any help would be good!
All of the ports are TCP. The configuration information you are asking is dependent on the specific firewall/device you are trying to do so on. What firewall are you trying to do this on?
Examples:
Windows Vista firewall
Symantec AV Firewall
Linksys router
Checkpoint firewall
Cisco router ACL
Thanks for the replies, I have a Windows Vista Firewall, have added the ports mentioned. Do I have to forward them some how to my BT Home Hub2 for them to work properly? If so anyone point me in the right direction for some instructions please.

What is the exact problem you are trying to address/fix?
Port forwarding not needed for this game and can cause conflicts with other systems on your internal network if you do so.
My FAQ has basic information you might want to look over.
My problem is that I keep getting disconnected from the server, or receivng server not responding messages, so trying to narrow down the cause, thinking its most likely my internet connection, wireless not the fast's there is at 0.50 mb but never had any other problems with MMO or browsing the interent until now.
You do not need to open any ports on your router to play STO. If the game works at all, you are fine. Changing your firewall config shouldn't affect performance (it either works or it doesn't).
