Ok this is starting to bug me i have a dual boot system (win xp & win 7) i still prefer day to day tasks on win xp.

But when ever i do ground missions (not all the time but a lot of the time) the game then goes very laggy & then my pc reboots.
It does not do this on windows 7 i can play STO all day with no problems.

system spec

intel core i7 920 oc 3.6ghz
3gb ddr 3
x-fi fatality 1
ati 5870
1000 w antec psu
cpu is water cooled (never goes over 55c)

As i say its only ground away missions iv never crashed in space combat.

You probably need to set up port frowrading on your internet rooter and check that your fire wall on your pc is giving STO full access not just limited (I think there are 3x .exe you need to authorise).

    Rooter settings TCP 7000-7500

If all else fails you need to talk to your internet company do you have a gaming package or just a light package?

If I can game in the UK with some one in the USA in real time then theres no problem with the servers.

The game only uses TCP so port forwarding is not needed. That would be for UDP or connections established by the server, not client.

Sounds like classic overheating to me.

I would see if lowerig wolrd detail to 50 % helps on the ground combat.
