Re-rolling character

After the immense TRIBBLE up I made on my first character, I've decided to reroll.

I tried the Tac officer and while he is awesome in space, he doesn't cut it at ground level.
I have no interest in the science officer, so all that leaves is the Engineer.

I just wanted to know how does he fair at ground and in space???
What's this I hear that he can mod weapons???
I know engineers are best suited to cruisers, so how good is he with escorts and science vessels???

Eng. is awesome in Sci. On the ground, if you want to make a lot of damage, you need to spec for construction, Quantum mortars, drones and towers gives the most boost to the damage you make, and most of them have short enough build time and cooldown to make them viable choices on the battlefield.

In other words: Go for it :P

Bear in mind, I've never seen a science vessel in action, how awesome are we talking here?

I have a tac officer in an Escort and Cruiser. I prefer the cruiser because of it's toughness and the build I have at the moment is quite good at being able to enter combat drain a side of shield, full yield quantum, then turn to hit the victim with my aft phaser arrays.

I haven't found a decent enough tactic with my escort as yet, but it has 2 dual cannons and a quantum launcher up front and a turret in the back. It turns waaay to quickly and I have trouble causing enough dmg before I overtake my victim.

Is the sci vessel somewhere inbetween these two ships???

Ground combat I'll just have to experiment with, but I must ask, is a Klingon Starfleet Engineer any good??? It looks good on paper and I have the cryptic points to purchase him. Just need input from the masses.

My first char was a Tac, and when I made RA I wanted to try something quite different. I heard people said Sci was boring, and other negative things. This attracted me to try it. And it was so fun, and powerful. In pve you pretty much own anything in space. You can just shot down their ships and pound them, or if there are many you can confuse them so they start to shoot at each other while you take down a few with their help. Feedback pulse, which make the enemy damage itself when they shoot beams at you. These are just a few fun things, in pve. And most of those skills are quite viable in pvp as well. And that's just offensive skills. You have great buffs and heals as well.

Sci boring? Not by a long shot :) And ships are quite agile, and incredibly strong shields. On ground you have good expose and control skills. Which with an beam assault rifle can wipe 2-3 characters at once if you do it right.

Well, I'm definately going to try an engineer on a science vessel. As for science officers being boring I only say this because a member of my gaming crew has a science officer and says it's as boring as watching paint dry.

Well, I found it absolutely exhilarating compared to the dullness of flying a Tac. To each his own I guess :)

When I put my TAC officer on a Discovery Class, I did FAR more damage then I could on an Escort, dont know if its the way I spec'd the character or what. But the extra targeting abilities made it fun and more Trek Like.
