I have a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS card in my HP notebook. Star Trek runs "OK" with the card but I do need to do tweaking in the graphic options in the game. I get the message "computer apperars to be using old or out of date drivers " when the game loads. My driver version is 195.62 Is there a newer driver out? I cant find any on Nvidia

Nope, they are the latest drivers.

i'm right in saying its a onboard card right?
My guess would be that STO doesnt support it.

This is a message that stated showing for pretty much everyone using Nvidia cards with a recent patch and for some people getting the latest drivers (if they didn't have them already) fixed it but for others it didn't. As far as I have seen however this has no real impact on how it runs, just click the remind me in a month option and continue playing.

It actually causes a system crash on my machine in spite of having up to date drivers...

I have a 8800m gtx , can run all the modern games with no problems what so ever , except with STO thats doesnt look half as good , Cryptic and STO just isnt too compatible with the 'M' cards and nothing seems to be getting done about it.

my card basically burned out on my laptop (8700M GT) due to playing the game, couldn't handle it on lowest setting graphic wise and kept overheating even though lord of rings online worked on high setting

I have an 8600m GT and have had no problems in terms of heat etc while playing STO. It's even overclocked to 600mhz (stock speed is 475).Other than the fact I need somehting newer to max it out, it works just fine at 1280x800 and lower-mediumish settings.
