Seems like everyone is able to get skill points relatively easy. But as far as i knew i was doing everything right but it seems to be taking me forever to get to Lt. Cmdr, still only at Lt. rank 7. Any advice on how to get those skill points the quickest way possible, at least at this early stage. tHanks

Lots of caffeine, some sort of finger food, pizza, and appx 4-6 non-stop hours will guarantee you level 1-10.

Just churn out quests one after the other and pay little heed to the amount of time you spend doing it.

    Missions.

Sector patrol (not defense) missions are usually the best vis-a-vis time for skill points. (You get points for kills, you get points for completing each segment, and you get points for completing the patrol.)

Exploration missions are also pretty good. (Same kill/segment/completion reward structure.) And they're repeatable. You also get exploration badges which can be traded for gear.

Patrols and episodes seem to be the best for me.

I can only repeat what the others have said - I thrive on the missions and patrols. Defending the sector is beginning to tire me out so I avoid them if possible. I also like the exploration - points, BOff points plus badges...pretty cool combo and not always a shoot 'em up - sometimes it's a relaxing scanning mission...

Best advice I can offer is to take and do missions of you level as they are offered: episodic, fleet actions, patrol, defend sector, exploration, etc. There are some spots which you'll come up short. But a quick round of Exploration or Defend Sector missions will get you over the level hump. If you follow the level progression of missions, you'll find that the rewards will nicely equip you with very useful equipment (both ship and ground). The equipment will usuall be Green/Blue. And will have special extras do deal with factions you soon be facint. For example, in the 5-15 ranks a lot of you rewards with have extra +20% Disruptor damage resistance which is a majority of what your facing in those levels. At later lt Commander levels, you'll get rewards with +20% Plasma damage resistance for facing Romulan and those nasty High Yield Plasma Torpedoes.

Don't bother running at top speed to those final levels.
It's not like there is any meaningfull endgame content yet.
Take it easy and enjoy the journey.

My friends and I that are at Rear Admiral 5 don't really have any secret, we just have a lot more time. Doing missions is good, doing repeatable exploration/defense/pvp missions is good. Any shortcut to skill points would only cut a small piece off the larger time spent. Don't worry about it so much, just have fun :D

I believe that Cryptic estimates about 20 hours of gameplay time to get to Lt.Cmdr.

I would stick with patrol and PVE missions. They give the most skill points for the amount of time spent.
