Perhaps that is, maybe they have more content waiting. Maybe they wanted to see "what out of the box" would be like and wanted to gauge what they had done to see how it would go before bring on more content that would allow the game to work more like an MMO such as World of Warcraft. We are all just to impatient to wait for it? We shall see in the next month what they really have up their sleeves. As players we have given them an ear full of posts with a tremendous amount of data for them to pour over.
I am interesting in seeing what they have up their sleeves.
It would be very strange if they didn't have more for this game. Star Trek is not just words, it's a entity with endless possibilities if you do it right and launch a online game out of it.
Many people have reacted to what they perceive as a unfinished game and that the content is lacking and not complete. In our day an age the reason why games get released before they are truly ready is because of the investors. They want their money on time and demand a release, and that it can be patched up later on. It's not only STO or MMO's that has this issue, most games have.
I have beta tested various games, both open and closed, for over ten years. Back in the day when I beta tested Anarchy Online, when it went live there were issues as well. Items without icons for example, just a big question mark. A placeholder. In STO when you go on a mission to check out a asteroid/underground base you should check a computer, then check another computer and check yet another computer. And the interior of the "dungeons" are so generic, I can understand that people are frustrated. But I look at it as placeholders.
This game was rushed, and I am quite sure the developers are as much frustrated with this as we are. But I am also equally sure they will polish and add to the "dungeons" and other missions. Because, Star Trek is a money machine. If they ultimately do this right, and polish it to the standard I am sure they set in the first place, it will be a truly wonderful game.
I am in this for the duration, and that means until they switch the servers off some time in the far future. And I believe in STO and the possibilities it has. Some people have more patience than others, and I have an abundance of it. I do however understand those that are frustrated, and those that love it.
So in short, yes I believe that in time STO will be a full experience with expansions and redone content. It may not happen in 45 days, but it will happen.

Great post, Very encouraging Hope is all we have right now.
Great post, Very encouraging Hope is all we have right now.
I am not much into that hope thing, I judge a book by its content not by the cover.
The engine Cryptic uses to create the trash MMORPGs that we all know by names like CO and STO is not capable of all those nice things that made other MMORPGs great and definitely not capable of everything a real Star Trek game would need like interaction, highly scripted content, seamless boundaries, 360° spaceflight, exploration, a complex crafting system with a real economy and everything else mentioned over and over again by players.
So yes, some progress will be possible, but this game will never be a high quality Star Trek MMORPG like many of us had hoped. It's a trash game that will soon be joined by yet another Cryptic trash MMORPG as they have stated on their website.

I've considered those possibilities also, I find it highly unlikely the company will prosper if they leave the game in a similiar state as it is now for some time to come and continue on the path of failed attempts at MMORPG's that never really take hold. So if that were the case, We as the gamers wont be that impressed and doubt we'd support future games (except for the fans of cryptic, which would continue to diminish pending the outcome of STO) by cryptic. So as the end result on the current path, We'll either find the game just dying down with Cryptics overall community of gamers, or some other company may see the advantages and buy the rights of STO out. Many questions at the start of an MMO but indeed the engine will need work should they wish to really expand the star trek universe to what it deserves.
The game is "rushed" because of a deadline .
We should understand that this is the business way to day (but can we ? and want we?)
Want to get the deal ? , you got so much time make it so ...
The company that should have made the game failed and than its "game is over "
Yes a lot has to be done but i must say with out kissing Cryptic behind they did a very good job to get the show on the road , its far from prefect but now its there and it can grow and get "mature"
This is a realistic looking game not a kiddo cartoon ,so its far harder to get it right .
Like all communities we got a far share of doom sayers hate breeders and crybabies.
In fact the more ya read on this form the far more i see that the ST spirit is even more in the game ,than among us
Never the less Cryptic and us want this "baby"to become a success.
They need the bucks , we need the fun .
Nagging and puking will not help either of us , just say what ya don't like without the tears and the gossip.
Keep in mind that we all have a different truth , with respect we can get closer to the ST spirited
Just voice your opinion but never get po if someone does not agree , that's the way to start a (flame) war  keep it logic don't get emotional
Don't react to a troll or ya become a counter troll
If, by some strange chance, they can not lift STO to the level it deserves and if they would want to sell the game in the future to another company I am quite sure there would be quite many interested parties because as I said earlier Star Trek in its name is a gold mine if you do it right.
And, even the investors want to rush a game they are equally aware of the income potential of a game. Especially a Star Trek game. I would venture a guess that they would put equal pressure to develop and polish the game now that it is launched as when they pressured it to be launched.
Before it really starts, if this particular thread will expand to a longer discussion I wish we could make it civil this time. Without name calling and derogatory words. An adult, responsible and constructive discussion. Maybe I feel like that because I'm an old man but, really, anger and flaming serves no real purpose. Being constructive on the other hand, does.

Another company buying STO from Cryptic is the best thing that can happen to the game and its players. It worked before.

I agree, the name calling and so fourth that occurs not just these forums but viritually every gaming forum is counter-productive and never achieves anything. I honestly never really understood the point, but that being said I'm sure Cryptic's main aim is to provide the best of their abilities. I just am in hopes that the best of their abilities is to the quality of todays expected standards from the demanding market.
Based how far they got on Champions. Not a snowballs chance in hell comes to mind. They wanted to sell everyone a expansion after 6 months. Latter they back down on selling it.

I blame that more on Roeper and Atari, then I do on the CO development team, to be honest. (For those of us playing the home game, Bill Roeper was on of the execs of Flagship Studios, the makers of Hellgate: London. They tanked so hard, it's damn near become an industry term for failure. Atari is also seen as the 'great leviathan' of the gaming industry. They do well for a while, tank hard, and then sleep on the bottom of the ocean until the time they rise again. You can guess my expectations from both parties based on this information).
Or, really, I don't much blame Cryptic all that much for the problems. Jack, I have beef with, but I'll admit he can envision a solid game, and put people together in the right order to create the foundation for one. Usually, though, it takes a clean-up crew to go through and get it to that level, but overall it happens eventually. That, and the big thing to remember with STO is that two other companies had the license before Cryptic landed it. All ultimately failed to meet the deadline on the license itself, which is when it got shifted...
Hot property like this, there was probably a lot of pressure from on high to get the game out soon from a marketing standpoint. Especially after Tabula Rasa (a game that spent a long time in development, and as a result had a debt that it couldn't even hope to pay off without WoW-level subscribers [that it didn't get]) showing what happens when you spend a bit too long on development. That was likely a real eye-opener for people looking to profit in the MMO industry, as well as some other hot properties not doing as well as expected (Conan, Warhammer, D&D, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings) in the grand field of things.
Yes, this game is rushed. There's evidence all over on that, but I don't think we can solely blame the developers for this one. Upper and corporate management likely played a big part on getting it pushed out before it was quite ready.
Something that Cryptic's kind of got a knack for - but even Champions picked up sginificantly in playability the first few months from launch (the expansion thing also felt like more of a marketing screwover for them as well).
Not saying they're perfect, but they're not a solo-studio, guys. Don't point ALL the fingers on them.

I read every single one of the posts and sent you a reply here thus far. I am very interested in the opinions to my original post. I like what I see right now, lets keep it clean and tell me what you feel?
I am sure we are all glad that you are so enthusiastic about our response to your thread, and so far it is a good discussion. But I am not sure if it is wise to take every single post and thank it It may distract the thread, a bit

Personally, I think it's cute, though I have to agree it does break up the mood a bit. >.>

Very good points made about management on the world of business as a whole, the game industry is just like any business. Top management always wants it today, when we know it will take another month.

This is a good post, and good information. As I have mentioned myself earlier, the developers are not always to blame and, more times than not, seldom to blame. This industry is about money, investors and getting your return. The dev's are probably as frustrated as some of the players are. But it is always the easiest for people to lash out at those that they feel are closest to them. It's human nature. Perhaps others will see the wisdom in your post as this thread moves on.
Yuh. I mean, the development team is somewhat to blame as they coded the thing, but given the management at the upper levels of Cryptic and the Atari corporate section... they may have been saddled with unreasonable deadlines and poor marketing decisions that they've had no choice but to deal with and try to make the best of.
Especially, again, with a time-sensitive property like STO. They've got to additionally work with Paramount to keep this particular license (Cryptic bought out Champions entirely, so no worries there).

That can somewhat fall back on the company itself though in the end as to the quality of the coders they do hire, I actually took a look at their website. And they don't request certified programmers, giving the feeling of settling for 'second best'. This isn't me having a go at the programmers of the STO team, Just stating that I'm sure they are doing the best of their abilities. It's mainly cryptics attitude on expectations.

True, but then again all we can do at best is to guess what goes on in the corridors and inner workings of Cryptic and associated investors. And Paramount. With the release of the new Star Trek movie, I would guess Paramount wanted a game to back that up as well.
Some parts of this game really makes me stop and look at things and details, as it is beautifully done. And smart. And then around the corner there is something very generic and unfinished. Which leads me to believe they got their marching order and had to release what they had and then do the clean-up job later on.
My first game was Pong on a console in the 70's, so I've been around a while (I don't count Moon Lander, which was just a series of numbers to land your craft on the moon and could be played in a Texas Instruments calculator ). Games today can't just fit on a floppy, there are huge amounts of code involved. And it gets bigger and bigger. It isn't simply feasible to release a bug-free game any more. Some companies manage to extend the development process further to iron out more bugs. But not all is in that position.
If this had not been an online game, I would have feared more for its future. But it is online, and monthly revenues are going to be counted. And again, it's Star Trek. If they can't do it, somebody else will pick it up. In the end it will shine, bright. This is truly what I believe. But it will take patience from the customers. Which in turn is a delicate matter because once you paid for your product you want it delivered. So I do understand both sides of the coin.

And I can respect that. Honestly, I'm hoping they do more with it as well. They have so much potential at the moment, that it makes me sad that so little of it has actually been uttilized. Some of the writing for story missions is brilliant, while others are lackluster and uninspired. So, I can dig what you're saying here.
There's also already precedent for an intellectual property shifting companies - Sony lost out to EA/Bioware on Star Wars, and it looks like Turbine is in a bit of fisticuffs with Atari over D&D in the MMO world. Star Trek'll be fine, but... I dunno. I sort of want this game to hit it's potential first. If just to see it.
ground missions are long drawn out and boring. start fight, read paper, look back to see if bo's killed them all
space combat waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy!
360 degree space flight (i heard the excuse that its not very star trek which is pure rubbish!)
its too boxed in. way too boxed in. at no point do you feel like you are exploring! the nebula's are a pure joke.
warping through sector space feels like driving round a small room not warping through sector ****
these points have been raised a million times on these forums and i think now are pretty much established as what people want.
half of them can not be done simply due to the engine that has been used. While i know these games develop etc they will never be able to change the Engine, nor should they have had to, but someone in their wisdom decided to use a ground based engine for a star trek game.
Frankly that is a joke. Now i know you will all pipe up and say a games company cant develop new engines for every game but in my opinion if they had no cash or dev time to build a proper base for this game then they bloody well shouldn't have taken it on!
Its not the fact that its unfinished. as has been said a lot of MMORPG's are released unfinished. The question i ask myself is with the engine limitations and so on will this ever be able to give me the feeling of piloting a star ship and exploring and all the rest that goes with it and the more i play the more i doubt it.
i truly feel for the lifetime subscribers. i thought about it and decided to play first. i am so glad i did.
will keep going to admiral (if i can get past doing the same thing over and over till i get there! (1 Nebulas and 1 defend and 1 patrol and do 1 badly written mission seems to level u even at high captain levels lol)) just purely because i love star trek so much and i pray they can do something but in all honesty. I'm bored now. sick of flying in to a space battle and pulverising everything 3 levels above me without thinking about it! maybe i should gimp my ship to make it harder.., hey maybe thats it. should be posting skill trees to make the game challenging haha... full ground skills for awesome space combat... anyway i'm waffling now.
its not that its unfinished,. its just that its made wrong
Half of them can not be done simply due to the engine that has been used. While i know these games develop etc they will never be able to change the Engine, nor should they have had to, but someone in their wisdom decided to use a ground based engine for a star trek game.
Not entirely true. CCP rewrote their entire graphics engine a few years back for EVE Online. It had the effect that some people had to upgrade their hardware or else they could no longer play the game though. But it has been done.
i was playing eve at the time. was more of a redesign of the actual ships. didn't seem to change the important parts of the engine... physics etc.. more of a facelift really. this game needs a lot more than a facelift!

Great post, Very encouraging
Just voice your opinion but never get po if someone does not agree , that's the way to start a (flame) war
keep it logic don't get emotional
Don't react to a troll or ya become a counter troll
Thank you for the information you have provided in my post!

I am sure we are all glad that you are so enthusiastic about our response to your thread, and so far it is a good discussion. But I am not sure if it is wise to take every single post and thank it
Personally, I think it's cute, though I have to agree it does break up the mood a bit.
My first game was Pong on a console in the 70's, so I've been around a while (I don't count Moon Lander, which was just a series of numbers to land your craft on the moon and could be played in a Texas Instruments calculator
