We're prepping for another Ask Cryptic, and we'd like to feature Klingons again! We know that we've not released a great deal of information about what we have in store for our most honorable warriors, and we're going to change that!
Please post any question you have for us regarding the current state of the Empire, or the future of the Empire, which has gone unanswered in this thread. We won't get to them all, but we will answer as many as we can, and post them to website once we have them answered!
Q: Will there be an introduction for the Klingon faction?(mid, long-term?) I don't mind not having a tutorial but just being thrown right away with a ship is not very fun...
Q: I'll assume the obvious will be asked concerning PvE content and deeper meaningful PvP, so my question will revolve around the less discussed customization. Cryptic used to be known widely for offering deep customization in their games, yet Klingon side (especially the females) have barely any customization besides the alien species options we borrowed from the Feds creator. So I would like to know if/when we will finally get more customization option love on our side? Currently the species NPC's have more options than the KDF players do, will players ever get access to the species outfits that the Gorn, Orions, Nausicaans NPC's get to wear while we're forced in the same single option outfit that makes us look the same?
Q: Mek'leth's, when/will/can we have them? Please? The art is already in the game and the NPC's already have animations using them against us, so it doesn't seem like something that would be super hard to give us for some alternatives from each other. Any chances of getting other melee weapon types other species might have used (Nausicaan Enegy Lance that's in the art book maybe)?
In that thread I discuss issues of the tactical officer. I also pointed out issues directly related to playing a Klingon TO.
My question is: The current description for Tactical Officer Player Abilities ( Attack Patter Alpha etc.) list the skills that modify the ability as: Tactical Team Leader, Escort Captain, and Heavy Escort Captain. Currently Klingons lack the last 2 skill options. If this is a typo error on your part what are the skill areas that we are to spend our points in to modify the abilities? I am also interested in what ship Cryptic would determine as the Klingon escort, my personal preference being the Bird-of-Prey.
2nd) Would it be possible for the forums to at least have a separate forum made available for Klingon play. I find it discouraging that game issues that are not directly related to pvp have to share the same area. Examples would be the KDF ship classes. Also when the golden carrot finally arrives with some form of content for klingons to have an area we can discuss that at? IMHO pvp is large enough that it deserves it own thread.
3rd) Will there be an official announcement when Cryptic will formally adopt the KDF player base? I am looking to have my hair color changed from red and no longer be a step child? /sarcasm off
We could really use some patrol missions like the Fed side has from Sulu... you know where folks can fight 5-10-15 vs the Fed NPCs? Right now it feels like I hop into the Kathless Expanse and I'm fighting all by myself....
I would think with the existing code (from the Fed side) something like the Deep Space Encounters, huge fleet actions and what not, could easily be made Klingon-centric, and give the Klingons something more to fill thier time with.
So what sort of 'cross-over' mission like the Deep Space Encounters are on track for the Klingon side of the house?
1) Are there any plans on having a type of "PVP Medal Exchange", so lower tiered medals could be turned in for a reduced amount of higher tiered medals?
2) Many Klingon players are concerned about the lack of purpose in the current PVP system and what it means to the future of the Empire. Are there any plans to a provide a more meaningful PVP system, such as "Open PvP" zones or capturable systems/planets/starbases that would then provide faction bonuses and rewards for holding?
3) It's been announced that a Star Cluster and a Fleet Action are being added in for the KDF side. Are there any plans on adding any Episodic content as well?
4) Do you ever plan on adding crafting and/or possibly "Targ breeding" to the Empire?
The only reason why you have areas in Klingon sectors as pvp zones, that you have access anyways with your overhead menu, is because you don't have anything else to put into klingon space.
When are the Klingons going to get actual content in their territory?
1) When will there be more CharGen clothing options added for the Klingon faction? Especially Female characters? Any chance of the DDE TOS Skirt/boot options being enabled until more content is created/tested, at least?
2) The 45 day article mentions a T2 cruiser is being produced; Any chance of it showing up before the 45 day patch? Most of the people who asked for it won't be in a position to really use it very soon, given the fast levelling.
The current system of queues and the lack of a "pre-match groupup room" (like in Champions) causes a great number of 1v5 type matches to start. Are you aware of the problem? I would be glad to discuss the problem in detail.
Klingons still have vendor issues. The ship PvP shield vendor wants T3 medals for the T4 shield and sells consoles instead of T5 shields. The PvP kit vendor sells T5 Tactical kits for PvE medals instead of PvP medals. Can you guys pretty please just test all of our vendors and get them working properly?
There are many complaints about the way being Exposed also causes a 10 second hold in ground PvP. Thoughts or comments on this? Can we discuss the possibility of removing the integrated hold that comes with almost all exposes?
"Rifle melee spam" is pretty annoying in ground PvP. The 50% chance to hold and 10% chance to expose on a spammable attack seems excessive for a ranged weapon to have. Can we talk about this?
I would also like to start a discussion on ground PvP regarding the possibility of reducing the rate of healing but also reducing exploit damage so that it's less frequently a guaranteed kill.
Really, just read that thread I linked. I didn't make it but it's a good roundup of things Klingons find troubling. It's very detailed and extensive and I hope at least one developer will take the time to read through it.
Also, we get depressed when we spend so much time in these forums discussing problems in detail and so very rarely get any kind of dev comments about it. Just a simple, "Hey guys, thanks for the info, we're looking into it" would do wonders for morale around here.

1) what is the target level of content for the KDF faction short (45 day update) and medium term? (3 months), compared in terms to current levels of the UFP content?
2) Is there intent to add more ships, specifically nausicaan/orion ships?
3) Are the devs aware of the issues players are having with how the instanced pvp is managed?
1) When will we be getting our Klingon PvE? And I don't mean grinding ships in the Kahless Expanse until our eyes bleed, I had more then enough grinding for levels back in SWG thank you very much!
2) What's the ETA on the T2 cruiser? Just a little hint for you guys - the sooner the better on this one
3) Will you ever make any meaningful PvP? By meaningful I mean sector control and/or anything else you can come up with that has an effect on the game beyond "neener neener neener we win we win you guys stink" kind of stuff.
Big open world maps?
New scenario maps?
Bigger scenario maps?
New game types? Objective oriented games, perhaps?
I really hope you aren't spending too much time on level 1-44 traditional PvE content for Klingons. Everyone in my guild who hasn't quit is already level 40+, and we aren't exactly powergamers. Any content you make that's exclusive to characters under level 40 isn't going to do much good. New PvP games and maps will help all levels, though.
- More uniform/character customization Klingon side
- More ships (preferably from the other races)
As for questions:
Q: I for one like the idea of the Klingons being PVP focused. You've previously said that you want to maintain that focus and playstyle for the faction. How do you plan on doing this? Specifically, will it just be a case of not adding enough pve content to advance without pvp, or is the new pve content going to be substantially different in tone and playstyle from what we have Fed side?
Q: The biggest drawback right now to Klingon faction play is a near total lack of immersion. This is in part related to the limited customization options, and in part due to the lack of a strong (or really any) overarching storyline for your Klingon character. The repetitive PVP queueing produces a character more like the protagonist of a shooter than a fully realized RPG. What plans do you have to give players a greater sense of immersion while playing Klingon faction?
Q: When will Klingons start receiving bridge officers with the efficient trait the way Feds do with some of the Saurian BOffs? In fact, when will we start seeing more of the space traits appear on all species of BOff for both factions?
Q: When will we be able to sort Federation and Klingon BOff's on the exchange? It's a royal pain for a Klingon to find a usable BOff with the hordes of Federation BOffs of that type. Sure, looking for a specific race helps, but both sides have Alien BOffs.
Q: Will Klingons get PvE missions that have nice rewards like that cool engine that adds 5 power to weapons, shields and aux? In fact, it could be the same mission chain with the Guardian of Forever, but from the Klingons' perspective.
Q: In regards to PvP medals, when will we be able to exchange low for high, such as 2 Tier 1 medals for 1 tier 2 medal? Both factions get locked out of earning more once we reach the next tier, thus typically end up with a large number that can't be spent, because we can end up with 1 medal short of the cheapest item.
Q: Same as the last question, but for the Exploration Badges instead of PvP Medals. On the Klingon side we do get locked out of the lower tier versions of the missions that earn Exploration badges at various ranks, so can't go back and finish collecting enough to actually spend them. Feds can at least repeat their Exploration sectors to spend all their Exploration Badges, so this one is less of an issue for them.
I'm sure I could think of dozens of other question, however I'll let my fellow Klingons post them. Most of which is probably already covered/asked about in this thread, "Things that need to be fixed/changed (Really long post)".
Q: As we can have Klingons on the Federation side, how about normally Federation races on the Klingon side? Expatriot humans, or humans that were never Starfleet? From conquered Empire worlds or colonies, now serving in the KDF?
Is the Klingon faction going to get fully fleshed out (meaning equal to Fed in terms of content) with VIABLE leveling options for those that either don't PvP, or want to choose when they do it and how much? If it is when can we expect most of it to be in the game?
To qualify, by viable I mean content that isn't just mindless star cluster grinding, and not just a few token missions thrown in just so it can be said you did add some.
I want some episodic content fomr Klingons. They are at war with the feds and the undine. No reason we can't expand on that from the klingon perspective.
Q:
Does Cryptic intend to ever create content where Klingon and federation characters can intermingle outside of PVP, be it raidasodes both sides can partake in together, or a social enviroment (such as Nimbus III?)
Most of my questions are story and lore related..but here goes.
Q: Any plans on moving the Klingons away from being "the bad guys" and into a more gray area?
Q: The Klingons seem convinced that the Undine have seriously compromised the Federation. Will Klingon PVE missions delve into this story line more deeply?
Q: Is there the possibility of getting Gorn, Orion, and Nausican ships for Player characters?
Q: Are we also getting access to Gorn, Orion, and Nausican costume pieces for our player characters?
Q: I hear a lot of talk about an "honor" system. Will Klingons be included in this system? (I'm hoping they will).
Q: Can we have a "Klingon Language Tutor" in game or some way in game to learn the Klingon language through playing STO? Pretty please..with Gagh on top!!!
Q: Any plans for cross faction missions and teaming against the Borg, Undine, or Founders?
Q: Will we get something to fight over at all ... cause with the current system win or loose actually dont mean anything . How about getting planets and space zones in game at locations you can fight over and hold for your side...
Q: Why werent the Borg zone actually made a CO'op zone cause the borg and the undine are both a common enemy and threat to the federation and klingon epire alike. And they have teamed up before against common threats...
Yes i know there is an population imblance but this can be counterd by giving the weaker side some bonuses or actually something UNIQE to do ....
How about this for the explore genesis stuff that u so like to give feds , a fed player go to help some alien against alien invaders and guess who the alien invaders are us the player klingons on ground or in space .
Q: When will we be able to buy more character slots on the C-Store? I know this is more of a general question, but since all 3 of my slots are taken by each of the different fed character types, I'd really like to know when I can make a Klingon.
Q: A lot of people have asked when we'll be getting the T2 cruiser, what ship class will the cruiser be?
And just to add to the growing list, more character customization, when? I didn't bother making a klingon after release just because I felt so limited by ship and character customization, but I REALLY want to play one.
