I think its a good sign - the fact that they brought up a lot of things that have been talked about a lot on the forums at least shows they're thinking I believe. Bridge functionality for one.
Of course, it could just be a random thing to tide us over. But I'd rather be an optimist.
Plus the nice little bonus you get was... well, a nice surprise.
EDIT: Whoops, put this in the wrong place... shoulda put it in the discussion forum. My bad >.>
Unfortunately, they don't have any areas to enter comments or more detailed feedback. I would like to be able to explain what I don't like about particular features and that while I am a LTS, I have given serious thought to cancelling my LTS because I am not satisfied with the fact that I've finished all of the content in the game before the first 30 days are up.
Some room for explainations would be nice, since I only put $15 and $50 since for one, 15 is the standard going rate for MMOs given that they don't charge stupid stuff for the c-store. Secondly $50 since that's just traditional pricing, and long as they actually end up adding alot more content and changes, it should be well worth it.
Either way, some room for writing comments would've been nice, though I suppose they're probably doing it this way cause it'd be easier to do data mining on.
I really meant it with that last part though, about the price.
This is a $20 game for which $5/month is a fairly optimistic price to ask given how relatively limited the multiplayer part is. For those prices, I might be able to get more people to play and I might be more inclined to hang on as a customer myself.
No way is this a $15/month title and I feel fairly robbed over the initial $50 buy in. It's simply not ready for prime time and I'm sure Cryptic has to have realized this themselves.

They could charge $5 a month but then you'd get no additional content. At $5 you would end up paying for all additional content in the C-Store. Thats fine as a business model if you want to support that but I doubt that is what you mean. What you really want is all the free content updates for $5 a month which would be nice, but isn't really a realistic scenario for an MMO.
It's nice that they are doing this survey. the 240 free Cryptic points are nice as well.
I filled in Memory Alpha/crafting as the thing I like the least. And as for the stuff for adding to the game, I boxed all off them
My answers were similar. The "Crafting" in this game is seriously below par for a major MMO. And there is no real in game economy because there isn't anything to buy with your credits. Once you've gotten your Tier 5 ship all equiped and have all your BO's set up what would you possibly buy? There isn't a recurring cost in the game that would encourage continued economy. And while the idea of no economy appealed t GR its simply boring in an MMO.
Realisticly is this game worth $50 if there were no monthly fees and they were never planning to add anything else as is, sure why not, people have charged the same for less content. Is this game worth 5 dollars a month without anything else being added ever, probably not. Is this game worth $15 a month if they're actually going to continue working, finishing, improving, and expanding on it, definitely. Course it all really comes down to if they're going to continue working and expanding on it.
Take Eve-Online, $15 a month got you free content upgrades every couple months, patches, fixes, expansions, plus their recent updated for dx10 graphics as well as planned expansions for charactor movement. Probably one of the best value game out there in terms of longevity. Lineage 2 also free expansion, by last count should be on their 10th or so, the $15 dollars a month also bought the standard that comes with any mmo, support, patches, fixes, additional additions (lol), and other things that generally comes with the expected $15 a month. While the previous two certainly did go above and beyond with free expansions along with an entire graphics upgrade for Eve, the $15 dollar subscription generally comes with the expectation of paying for support and expansion of the current world. Were they not to be adding, this $15 would feel unjustified since MMOs can practically be run for free without any updates.
Anyways, long as they're going to continue work on it and expand the world, the $15 a month should feel justified.
PS, also listed memory alpha/crafting as the least liked, since quite frankly it isn't crafting and there really should be an actual crafting system built in.
I filled it out. I wish there was places to give more detailed feedback. But still, a lot of what was there is many of the items mentioned on the forums. So, hopefully this will likely be the start of helping the prioritize what needs the focus first based on player comments.
I see this as a good sign because it shows they are likely trying to reach out beyond the Forum comments to get a larger scope.
I may be blind, but can someone post a direct link? I get the English forums by default, but my main page is German and refuses to switch to English or French, so I get a feeling I'm not seeing the survey because of that.
I am really glad that Cryptic put out this survey. It demonstrates that their team is professional and focused on addressing customer desires. The fact that customers seem to be taking the survey also speaks very well for the future of this game -- it shows that a lot of people care about making STO a success. Silence, from both devs and from customers in the form of indifference, would signal death, as many saw with games like Vanguard.
That said, I thought that the "how much is this game worth" question was a bit superfluous. City of Heroes, Champions Online, and by extension, Star Trek Online have traditionally had much less depth than the typical MMO and in turn have had much more breadth and customization; this tends to drive down the recurring subscription value price-point but it makes a strong case for content on the C-Store for the game. I felt that STO was worth at least $40-50 -- it has at least around 70-80 hours of gameplay built-in to the current content, and this is sort of a standard right now of what is being sold at this price-point. The recurring subscription value should probably be less than $15 -- probably closer to $10, but not $5, which would drop it into the almost free-to-play level, and STO - while casualized - is not a "casual" web-game.
Hopefully, significant investments in (a) bug fixes and quality improvement; (b) new content for the game; and, (c) customer service will increase the subscription value and address many of the customer concerns that I have seen posted here. Nevertheless, because there is so much concern on these forums -- even though much of it is whining -- it bodes well that people care very much about this game. It's games where no one has an opinion where you begin to realize that no one cares to see it improve, and thus, it doesn't.
I actually said 10 a month and 40 for the package, albeit i bought the collectors for 84 will do three month chunks for a subscription. So they asked about story, i have a question what's the story..... i rescue ships and go on missions but i don't feel that there is an attached story to all of this.. just that the klingons and federation are at war and then you get *spoiler* a personal enemy of sorts at the end of one of the missions. but no attached story that i feel really. not like a traditional game, if i'm wrong please point it out to me so i can enjoy this more because i do like a good story.
I would have also liked a free text box to explain myself. For example, I put an 0$ for a sub fee on the basis that F2P MMO's offer more, better and more variety in content than STO. Put STO as a F2P with an IM, and I will be here again after my 30 days are up.
Instead we have a P2P with a IM model with STO.
Back to Allods Online (F2P), which amazing game, still in beta without any of the problems that STO has!
Realistically, a comments box would have been against the whole point of the survey. They wanted a simple tally of what most of their subscribers want i.e. What do we have to do to keep getting your money? They don't want to have to sift through thousands of additional comments, that's what the feedback forum is for. A dedicated thread in the feedback forum where we could make any additional comments we would have included in the survey would be nice, though.
It shows all the doubters that the devs do listen.
In regards to the amount charged for this games sub I think $10 per month with a small amount of micro-transactions would be fair. I don't mind paying extra for content as long as it was a fair price. The price of the Klingon and ferengi officers is very fair. We here in England pay £8.99 a month which is roughly $15. All of our mmos are priced the same. I'd like to see a drop to between £5-£7 which is roughly $8-$10.
The fact we get 240 points for this is just gravy. Ooooo gravy.
I wouldn't mind doing stuff for store points if the store kicked off.
My major issue is the content, or lack there off, and my choices reflected that. I have had this game for almost 30 days and I have just about finished EVERYTHING. I still have the 4 missions in Borg space but after that what is there to do? PvP and my Daily, thats it as far as I can tell.
I will pay for one more month, as I want to see what they put out on the 45 day patch, but if I am still at this point, where I have the desire to play but nothing to really do, then I will not be paying for another.
Also it appears that Cryptics track record is to stop updates 6 months out and sell the game to someone else. Let me say right now that I could be wrong about that, and if I am wrong then they need to really step up on just about EVERYTHING in the game.
And if they do sell it, then who ever buys it will have a lot of work to do.
What did everyone give on the 1-10 question. I gave a 7 but was close to giving a 6. Honestly I thought 6.5 but just rounded up to 7. Game is not a 1 but not a 10 either. 10 would mean it's perfect now and there is no way the game is perfect. The devs have some work to do still so this game can reach the potential it has.
I think the reason there was no feedback area in the survey was because they have to forums. And so far people are not shy about voicing thier opinions about what they want and don't want.
I too listed the current "crafting" system as they least attractive peice of the game. While crafting may not really be all that Star Trek-y, it is generally accepted as something you get in an MMO. I just don't know how they would do a robust crafting system in a Star Trek type feel.
Very glad they are soliciting feedback. Now if they would just add some useful stuff to the Crytptic Store to spend my points on... (TOS uniforms would rock, but upset some people...)
Curious if i've beaten the game since I just did the first three quests in Borg space and I hit 45 tonight but nothing else has been added. If so then I am slightly irked I got a timecard for this. However, I do have friends who have bought STO and they are loving it in the low levels. So its not like I don't have anything to do for two months. But after that...back to WoW only for sure until TOR. A lower sub would entice me to pick it up again from time to time as I do see tremendous potential in this title. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see where this all pans out.

Did they sell off CO? First I've heard of that. Otherwise their track record is to run and develop a game for years and only sell it off when they have money problems as they did with City of Heroes/Villains when it went over to NCSoft along with quite a few members of the CoX dev team which are now part of Paragon Studios. And say what you will about NCSoft but they've invested quite a bit in the CoX line.

Not to my recollection - the games servers are still tied together at least insofar as globals, and they're releasing a major content update soon that's currently on the PTS.
Not sure why someone would have thought they sold it off...

Me neither, but the other fella was saying that Crytpic tended to sell things off after six months and CO is the only product I know of theirs in that age range. So I figured I'd ask. :-)

I'll second that - I was planning on doing it anyway, but that certainly did speed up when I decided to take it. Thanks for the tip.

Ehm not seeing this survey on that site?
There should be a news post about it - that's how I found it.

The survey was nice. I'd like to see the results some day. But the only thing that would make me happy is to see actual change come about from it.
