Audio broken since last patch

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Since the patch on 02/23/2010 the in game audio no longer works, this is the case when selecting my desktop speakers (Realtek AC97) or my headset (MS LifeChat LX-3000) as the output device from the audio options menu.

Both of these worked last night. I'm running XP 64bit OS.

I've updated my Realtek AC97 drivers, however still no luck.

Anyone else having similar issues?

Thanks in advance for any assistance, playing in the dead silence of space isn't going to cut it :)

Cheers!

Try putting -ignorex64check in the command line box in the launcher options.

Might not work but does for some.

So what exactly does that do, or tell the game not to do?

I'll try it, since my audio (X-Fi as well) has been crappy and has caused some crashes I think, since a recent patch, but I like knowing what I'm doing to my client and why. :)

edit: Just found GM Doog's comments about it in another thread. I'll try it out shortly. Hopefully it works.

The realtek drivers are disabled by default on 64 bit as there is a major cpu bug in the drivers.
the option disable the ckecking of the system for the 64 bit thus not disabling the sound.

Okay so now I'm getting Real Tek 97 specific crashes and a dialog that tells me not to use the -ignorex64check. So my options are

    1. Play with no audio
    2. Play with audio but crash at least once every hour

If I pickup a sound card will that resolve my issues or is it any real tek driver on x64 that is the issue?

you would need to pick up a non realtek sound card , I think.
