Crystalline Entity

What is it we're supposed to do in order to kill the damn thing?

Some people suggest ignoring the fragments, as destroying them heals the Entity. Then others say getting hit by them is worse, as that heals the Entity even more. Mines are either useless or counterproudctive.

A little in-game help would be nice. What are we supposed to do? People complain about those who fire only at the Entity, only to be rammed by fragments and thus healing the Entity, but others still complain about those who fire at the fragments at all.

So what are we supposed to do? I've tried every strategy I could think of, but the 4 times I've tried the Entity fleet action, it goes from, say, 30% to 75% health and I just give up after over an hour or two.

Thank you. I did search for it and I got a ton of results that didn't have much to do with the CE. :)

Also reading the mission debriefing is your friend.

I read mission briefings usually. I must've missed the lengthy explanation about the various types of Fragments and which ones heal the Entity. ;)

I got a shield battery. Anticlimactic to say the least!

Then again, one must wonder why the Crystalline Entity was carrying a spare shield battery around.

well what we can learn from this thread is that few of these rude people posting "are your friends"

you kite the thing on all engines and just shoot the CE. however all it takes is one "noob" to run into large fragments (which explode into small ones that go back to heal the CE) to ruin everything. ... trouble is there are 15 "noobs" and 5 other people screaming at them.

also, keep jam/scramble sensors up on it as much as possible. I doubt that I'll ever finish it. I've been back so many times it's just useless.

It depends on how much damage you do just like any fleet action. The best gets the blue, the next a green etc.
    Plus completing the quest.

But since it's so hard with people ruining it, it's not worth it by far.

Here you go. STO Wiki's article is comprehensive and somewhat authoritative.

Shooting crystals does not heal the entity. Shooting torps does not spawn an extra amount of shards. You can safely put anyone who says shooting heals the entity or that torps are bad on ignore.

At 30% health the entity spawns large shards, if the large shards hit *anything*, that includes any targetable destructable like mines, high yield plasma torps, away team shuttles, your ship it will cause the large crystals to break into 3 small crystals. These return to the entity and heal it.

Shooting larges is a valid strategy. Shooting smalls is absolutely neccesary.

The best way to beat it is to grab people with science ships and spam "Scramble Sensors", this prevents the entity from spawning shards and will stop or slow any existing shards. Moose claims the ability to do this in under six minutes but my best time is 20min.

Here is some more tips, ideally, if people read, and play to their ship strength and work as a team , you can defeat it with the least amount of efforts.

In a large groups - ... group all the escorts together - they should be the ones that should focusing on the entity and be doing the main DPS - why.. because they have the highest dps to do the most damage and speed to out run anything the CE give out.

group all the science ship together - they provide additional supports on the CE, both in dps and debuffing, jamming sensors, VM, sensors, extend shields/sci III to escorts. etc.. with two or three ships, you can really null the CE effectiveness. One up high, one below, one on the outside.

group all cruisers together, they are the watchdog - they focus on shooting off shards off escorts and science ships, healing and watch out for small crystals and focus on killing them right away. They should not be focusing on the CE - this draw the crystal fragments away from escorts and allows escorts to keep making DPS runs faster, and science ships will be watching the cruisers back, if things get complicated, by drawing the fragment further away from the CE, the further you are away, if something goes wrong, the smaller crystals will have a further distance to travel back, which give others players time to react out.

and please, give a head up in chat, if you see any small crystals fragments to alert other players.

Yes, certain class may not get any loots, but it is not the goal it to complete the quest, working as a team is a must..
