I was just wandering, from the looks of the store you will get one free ship each rank tier you aquire, but can you go back and buy another ship, like for instance when i get promoted to lietenant commander, i get a escort as my main ship, but then also could i go back and buy the lietenant commander tier cruiser or can i only have the escort and must wait till my next tier to get a new ship?
Correct .. you'll get one free ship with each promotion, and you can purchase additional ships if you like. There's a limit to the number of ships you can have in total, but I think it's always enough to try out each of the available classes.
so can i decomission my old ships to make room for the new tiers, obviously once i get my new tier i wont want the ship i played the training mission on.

The limit is six(6) ships. You can only own six ships at a time. You have to discard (decommision) one of your six to get another.

This may be true until you hit the higher ranks, but at Rear Admiral you can have up to 8 ships (well, at least 7, because I have 7 at the moment). I'm not sure if it's similar to the way you gain more officers (4 at Lieutenant, 10 at Rear Admiral, etc) or not. I do know during Closed and Open Betas, 8 was the maximum number of ships you could have.
I got LT CMDR, bought my Light Cruiser for a dollar from the ship store like I was suppose to, yet it still gives me my original ship when I beam up. How do I get the new Light Cruiser I am suppose to have.

Talk to the ship selection NPC (Ens. Obin, IIRC) downstairs near the customization consoles.
why is it that the creators of the game havnt made the bridge more fun to be more precise i want to be able to walk to the different parts of the ship be able to interact have intruder alerts were you chase people inside i think if my fleet wants to get together and talk about important things on our flag ship i think we should be in a conferance room not on the bridge:)

The number increases with rank. At LC I can only have 4 right now. I know during OB I had 6 when I hit Commander.

edit: I see JohnStreutker beat me to it lol.
Varies according to Tier:
T2: 20,550 ECr
T3: 68,500 ECr
T4: 143,850 ECr
T5: 246,600 ECr
They may seem expensive but they arn't really. (expecially if you can work the exchange as well as me)
You can buy virtually every ship type although I think you can only have 6 or 8 max or somthing like that.:)

You have to set your new ship to 'Default' before you can fly it.
