Patching Problems

Hi

Having problems downloading the patch. This is the second time that this has happened. The last time was with the last patch from last week.

I start up the launcher and log in. The patch starts to download (Nicely) and last time I got half way, this time I got quarter of the way about 20 meg this time. Then the patch stops and I recieve the error message: Error 14: The connection to the server was lost. Restart in [countdown].

I am then unable to patch more than 3 - 4% before I keep getting the message and disconnected.

I have looked at the other patch difficulty thread "Patching is Awful" and ran the Cryptic nettest thingy :). Heres the results:

My internet is a Virgin cable broadband connection. Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried the patch through proxy setting but that didnt make a difference.

Thanks in advance.

This is what's happening to me too. I'm on a Comcast cable 16mpbs connection. I launch STO through Steam.

    Ouchy..

Thought I would try the patch in the morning when the server requests would not be high. Its still failing to patch. I had a look at another thread. This is the console output:

    PatchClientLib: connecting to patchserver.crypticstudios.com:7255
    PatchClientLib: redirecting to 208.95.184.107:7255
    PatchClientLib: skipping unneeded autoupdate CrypticLauncherST
    PatchClientLib: successfully connected
    Loading manifest: e:/Cryptic Studios/Star Trek Online/Live/.patch/StartrekClient
    .manifest...done
    Loading filespec: e:/Cryptic Studios/Star Trek Online/Live/.patch/StartrekClient
    .filespec...done
    Loading hoggs...done. (1.01)
    Deleting files...done (0 deleted). (0.00)
    Deleting rouge hoggs...done (0 deleted). (0.00)
    Examining hoggs...done. (2.19)
    PatchClientLib: xferrer hanging, 31s now
    PatchClientLib: unexpectedly disconnected

Anyone? Please. I cannot now patch this game!

    Ha how about that!

Was just checking my account details because I was a bit worried that I may be paying an extra tenner for a game that I couldnt play. When BAM!

    The game patched and started!

Ah well. Back into space with me!

    Cheers

    Hi Wolf,

Take a look through my FAQ, a packet capture would greatly help determine what is hanging your download but without doing that you can go through my list of items to try first.

Note the section on STO log files and look for matching time stamps in the two patch logs.

Those nettest results are very low. Looks likes theres a bottleneck on yoru router, or an ISP issue.

Thanks guys. Let me go through this things to do and I will let you know how I get on.

If it is a possible bottleneck, would this be being caused by the number of people currently downloading the patch, is this why a day or two after, all of a sudden it starts working?

    Thanks again.

The download speed has never been an issue for me and I test in on three different systems.

Hee hee, I have had lots of fun updating my driver. Especially when Nvidia removed my network driver and then didnt install the new one!

But I did eventually manage to upgrade the network driver and it successfully downloaded the patch.

Thanks very much guys. Much appreciated.

Yes, that can be a pain the butt when you suddenly are missing your network :D

Glad to hear the drive update fixed the problem, would you mind posting the network adapter brand, model, old driver and new driver version that fixed it?

Oh dear. Time to show my embarressment for whats under the hood ;).

I have an Asus K8N-e deluxe motherboard. I am not great at patching so I noticed that Ihad Nforce network drivers dating back to 2004. I dont fully understand how Nforce drivers patch and what the different numbers mean but after the first patch attempt removed my network capability's I needed to find out :) .

After checking the Asus sites and finding other information I was able to find that Nforce 3 drivers may work. I couldnt easily find them on the Nvidia site but after a quick google I was able to download them and install them.

My computer is now showing Nforce network controller. I didnt install the Nforce firewall (dont trust it and I have noticed in posts about patching issues not to install it). The date of the driver is now 2005, when I tested it it continued downloading the patch, pretty quickly as well. I hope it will work with the next patch, will wait and see for that answer :).

    Cheers
