Attention: Coderanger - Getting "Disconnected From Server"

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
EDIT: Also need help with this: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=130615 /EDIT

Hi

Cryptic_Falkoren suggested this title....

Anyways, I'm getting disconnected from server.
I've tried several different hings with help of Falkoren, he even looked at my account and didn't see anything on your end.

After testing, I have noticed that if I set the proxy to US I can log in, if I set the Proxy to None, I can not log in.

Why am I having to log in setting the proxy when I didn't have to before?

EDIT:
Doing another Force Verify after rebooting to see if it helps. A Force Verify didnt work and a reboot didn't work, maybe a force verify after a reboot will

Edit 2:
Failed, but still successfully log in when using US Proxy. I don't want to use it cause apparently it effects my stability.

    run a tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com

    download and run nettest
    Nettest:
    Go to http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download this file and run it
A command prompt should appear running the test automatically

Column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate). If the values in these columns is less than what is expected you may have filtering or blocked ports either on your personal network or from your ISP.

    post the results

I'm running a dual boot computer

    Windows Vista 32-bit
    Windows 7 64-bit

Vista: I can log in no problems using NONE for proxy
7: As above, I am unable to log in unless I choose US.

your values are low and the second column shows very low trasnfer rate. what is your network set up (nic , router, modem, isp setup)?

    NIC: Built into MB (0RY206)
Router: Linksys WRT54GL flashed to use DD-WRT
    Modem: Motorola (I think it's model# 2210)

ISP setup? Not sure what you're asking here. I use AT&T DSL
Downstream Speed: Up to 3.0 Mbps
Upstream Speed: Up to 512 Kbps

Why does it matter anyways? In Windows Vista I DO NOT need to use US proxy, in Windows 7 I NEED to use US proxy. Why would it matter on my setup? I am dual booting, meaning exact same computer.

    Why?

I am dual-booting my system. It works perfectly under Windows Vista 32-bit.

On Windows 7 64-Bit I am having problems.

    PLease Help....this is getting frustrated.

Try bypassing your router and going straight through your modem.

If this gets rid of the problem it is your router. If it doesn't then it is either a setting in the OS (more likely) or it is your ISP.

If the problem isn't with your router then I would suggest doing some research on any installed firewalls you may have installed on the OS you are having issues with.

Sorry I can't help more but I use XP and haven't gotten around to purchasing the new computer I would need for 7.

EDIT: If it turns out to not be your router I would also look into updated drivers for your network adapter. Since your having issues with the 64 bit OS and not the 32 bit the problem may lie in a driver somewhere.

I am thinking this is a wireless router and the signal from your router isnt strong enough to maintain a constant connection. Eliminating the router from the equation will help pinpoint the cause. A firware upgrade may or may not help, the only sure way to isolate is to remove the router and see if the problem is solved.

I'll do that, but before I do, I want to know why you think it might be my router? Reason I ask is I am using th exact same computer, same firewall, same antivirus, etc. I am dual booting, so they are both using the same everything. One lets me to connect without issues (Vista) the other does not (7). If you can tell me a reason why it might be the router, I will check. IN the mean time, I will check my drivers. I am using the built-in NIC car on my mobo.

    EDIT:
Currently using up-to-date 64-bit drivers on my onboard NIC card. It's the only version available as well.

Ok so your going to want to focus on 7 for a solution.

Check your firewall settings and perhaps, tho less likely, check for updated network drivers. My first bet is going to be a firewall setting in 7.

You might try running STO in a window and see if anything pops up pertaining to allow/block traffic messages from your firewall.

And the reason I suggested bypassing the router is standard trouble shooting practice. Just because it doesn't seem like it could be the problem, the test is simple and now we know it isn't the router. One less thing to think about.

Anytime you are trouble shooting a network issue the less stuff in between you and the target the easier it is to trouble shoot the problem.

It's not the firewall....disabled my software firewall, disabled windows firewall....same problems.
I upgrade my NIC drivers, same problems.

I have my firewall also set to allow startrekonline.exe all activities, but since firewall is disabled and still does it, cna't be that.

I have tried the following today with help from #STOQA channel, to no avail

    Bypassed router....no effect
Updated nForce4 NIC drivers from windows generic to newest nForce drivers, No Effect
    Tried FreeDNS alternative, No Effect
    Flushed DNS cache, no effect

    Please close thie thread.

It was my firewall all along. Even disabling it didn't make the problem apparent that it was the firewall.

I hate to say it but which software firewall are you using?

Some will CLAIM to be disabled when they really are not.

If its norton uninstall it and try again.

    Whoops didn't see this.

Software firewalls are bad for this reason. Having a good hardware firewall should be enough :p

Yeah since you already have a router, which most are a firewall in and of itself, the software firewalls are a pain in the aft section.

I'm glad you were able to get the problem resolved. Hope we were of more help than hurt.
