Need Suggestions For A New Gaming Monitor

I have been using a very reliable 21" CRT since 2004 and, well, it's simply time to move on. I'm in the market for a new LCD monitor for my gaming computer, but the couple of websites I've always relied on for hardware reviews and suggestions (like www.sharkeyextreme.com) aren't maintained anymore.

From what I gather so far, I'm looking for maximum contrast ratio and quickest response time. I was a bit surprised that none of the big box stores I hit yesterday had anything better than 50000:1 and 5ms. There was a 26" that had 200000:1 and 2ms at a small custom store, but it was about $100 more than I wanted to spend. I've since decided I need to expand the cost horizon a bit, but I still need ideas for a new monitor. Or, simply new hardware websites to start following.

The great thing about Sharkey was that they always had a value-gaming, high-end gaming, and extreme gaming setup that addressed every single aspect of building a gaming computer. I've never gone wrong following their advice and I'm bummed that they're not keeping up to date anymore.

    I'm running this:

    http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfo/peripherals/monitor_2408wfp/pd.aspx?refid=monitor_2408wfp&s=dfo

At home It's overkill I admit for most but after seeing the consistent performance, great adjustability, and input options I couldn't take a chance on the refurb of the week again. %-)

If you can afford it, the Samsung 275T+ (or 305T) is incredible. I've had mine for quite a while, and if it died I would just buy another one.

@" and of course, you get what you pay for. Quality has massively suffered.

    Hey,

It sounds like you want a high quality monitor, am I right?

If you want a high quality monitor and want to see the graphics the way the STO Developers saw them you should really get a Eizo. Even their cheapest monitors can show by far more of the RGB-Scale than any other brands on the market.

Eizo costs abit more than the average monitor, but you get a pixel warranty that is better than the ISO the other brands follows. You will be able to see a depht in games that you didnt know existed if you used a budget monitor before, the colors are just perfect, black is black, white is white, gradient colors are smooth.
And the best of all, the warranty is 5-years instead of the standard 3-years. The response times aint anything you should focus too much, you wont notice and difference between 6ms and 2ms, but you will notice a huge difference in the way graphics are displayed on your screen.

I myself have been using Eizo for more than 10 years and I will never use any other brand simply because they just kicks every other monitors TRIBBLE. You can find their models at www.eizo.com, but you can manage to find them cheaper at bigger companies, not all companies sell Eizo tho, the low-price chains sells the junk monitors only.

And a final tip, dont get a monitor with the TN Panel, even if they might be really cheap, the bigger the monitor the more you will be annoyed by the TN Panel.
