Not to mention the complete lack of any contractual obligation. When people are brought in and left to do things as they please, and the most they have to fear for doing something they shouldn't do is being removed from the project, self-service invariably comes into play.
In my experience working as a staff member on a modding site network for four years, I found there are few actual talents who genuinely care about modding. Most people are in it for the lulz, for the street cred, or for self-serving reasons. Shame, because they're killing off an art form.
