Zany "death penalty" suggestion

Yes, I know there's alreay an ample thread for it, however, last time I read anything in that thread it was at about 15 pages, so I'm not going all the way through it at this point. :)

BUT, I wanted to get this idea beyond the cruiser board where I first came up with it and posted it. What if "death penalty" wasn't really a penalty, so much as a new experience?

For ground I don't think there's anything wrong with what we've got, you die, you either wait for your away team to finish the fight and revive you, or you respawn and your penalty is having to run back through the map to where you were before.

For space, however, I think something needs to be done, there needs to be some consequences. I don't even try to stay alive because you do get to a point where it is MORE beneficial for you to die and respawn than for you to try and survive. But at the same time, you don't want to penalize people too heavily and take them completely out of the game when they die. Also, this should be ignored for PvP content, even a "non-penalty" like this just encourages griefing if it exists in PvP.

So here's my idea:

You're in a fight with your ship, you ship is "disabled" and you get thrown out of the space combat onto your bridge. Now you have to venture from your bridge out into the rest of your ship, repelling boarding parties sent by the enemy, repairing damage to your ship, and getting medical aid to injured crewmen. (While your engineering crews, security teams, and medical team try to do so as well)

If you want to just sit on your bridge your crew will eventually do their jobs and you get back in the fight. If you go out and help that speeds up the process and you can get back into the fight faster. You could even get a little extra display showing the status of your ship (hull/shields) so you know how close your are to fixing up the ship, and if you want to jump backl into the space fight without being fully repaired you can do so, as repaired as you'd managed to do in the interim.

So? comments? criticism? thrown vegetables? (no pumpkins please, they hurt)
