If you look at the movies, tv episodes, and other media on the borg.. these things should have the player wetting their space pants if they see a SPHERE let a lone an actual cube. A cube in Nemsis takes out how many ships? dozens.. it takes a mircale in the form of Picard knowing exactly where to strike to bring it down (due to him being formily assim'd). Three borg DRONES in Enterprise series, frozen for years upon years, managed to rebuild a shuttlecraft into a probe, improve it enough that it became a match for a full sized ship at the time, and almost took out the enterprise itself.
The borg ADAPT to what you have, and quickly.. making what you do against them meaningless.. it takes constant thinking of new ways to defeat them to stand a chance.. and you only get one or two shots before they adapt to that. It's a pronounced struggle for SURVIVAL.. these guys are not supposed to be EASY.. they are supposed to be the hearlds of doom.. the unsurmountable mountain that unless everyone in the entire galaxy bands together to drive them back no one stands a chance.
So here we are in the STO universe.. and ok good.. you granted to 'justify" the wussy drones in the begining.. good on you. But now we are in a full blown sector map of space and going against CUBES upon CUBES .. AND DOING IT SOLO.. i mean what the heck is that about? I can solo cubes alone? Heck I managed to take out 2 yesterday without an issue.. i barely dropped shields.
Let's say for arguments sake I would be able to take out ONE with a massive barrage of firepower from my fleet escort.. I manage to Sensor lock another to prevent it from taking me out and I managed to take it out... i should maybe be able to do that once.. or twice.. and get away with it.
I am sorry but Crypitc needs to seriously up the strength of these guys.. I should not be soloing a cube.. in fact If i see a cube and I am not in a party I should be forced to flee, get the heck out of there, ask friends for help
As it stands the Borg are the peak of an allready shamelessly easy game..
SO: How to fix??
Solution: Any damage borg cube or sphere takes has a 5% (or higher if you want) chance of increasing the damage resistance of that ships current weapon type vs ALL BORG IN INSTANCE (shield only).
this means that your first borg cube you can struggle but possibly take down.. the next one will have resistances vs that particular weapon you were using.. so you are going to have to either switch weapons or use skills (such as frequency modulation) to overcome this defeciency.
by the time you get 3-4 cubes in you are going to be defintely sweating bullets on trying to get their shields down.. actual "tanking" comes into play.. timing photons with teammates.. etc etc
being a realist.. i would even offer that Cryptic should massively increase HP of shield and hull on borg ships as well as giving a decent boost to their firepower... effectively making them team dependent..
I had this concept recently where ground Borg struck three times with the same type of energy beam would automatically gain immunity to that damage type, which would cancel if they were struck by another energy type. This'd give you incentive to equip your away team with a wide variety of beam types to get around the Borg just adapting to everything.
Also, more of those Borg who come back to life unless you kill their beacon.
The way the CE behaves is more like how a single borg cube should behave. As a matter of fact, replace CE with a borg cube and the frags with borg sphere or scouts and there ya go. Imagine 3-4 borg cubes as powerful as the CE ? Now that would bea mighty hard endgame fight.

but that's just me
Yes, Borg adapt, but so do humans, that combined with our imagination is our greatest evolutionary tool (besides opposable thumbs). Combine the tech Capt Janeway brought back from the Delta quad with the tech and info she was given by Adm Janeway top it with 20-30 years of research and now we can stand toe-to-toe with the borg.
These are post voyager Borg............. don'tcha know?
Yeah. Borg ceased being "all that" forty years ago when Janeway stomped all over them in her dinky little science vessel that isn't even top of the line anymore.

I think you have a really good point here. When I think of a borg cube, I think of what is essentially like trying to tackle the crystalline entity encounter... one cube takes an entire fleet, with strategy and coordination.
Yep, the Borg were janewayned decades ago. Funnily they are still the most badass enemies STO has. I wish I could figure out how the Assimilation-DoT works. I can kill a heavy tactical drone with a bat'leth and it doesn't use it, while I sometimes get hit by it when running past a drone while firing on another. Or the shield drain of the cube... The actually sad thing is that the Undine are a joke when compared with the Borg.
Increase their shield HP with increasing resistances every time they are hit with a weapon up to a cap.
Thus, you have to kill them fast or your attacks will gradually lose their effectiveness but it wont become entirely pointless. Borg shields DO have limits and they can be overwhelmed so they absolutly should not get damage immunity.
5% resistance per hit up to a cap of 50% would be quite fine for ground and space combat.
Yeah species 8472 were on the verge of wiping out the borg entirely, without breaking a sweat, now they are a joke in this game. Also I know Janeway gave the borg a way to fight htem, but she later gave the same info to the Undine so I'm sure they would have adapted. I wonder why the Undine doesn't just open up a wormhole near Qo'nos, link a few ships together and blow up the planet like the did to the borg worlds? Oh that wouldn't make much of a game I guess.

Name anything that is a challenge in this game. I mean seriously...
I can count on 3 fingers how many times I died (ground or space) in 45 levels.
