New players scan a lot?

Ive noticed several times now when I created a new Federation char, that all the newbs constantly scan the first room that a player appears in after creating a character.

They just stand there at the spawnpoint and scan, scan, scan, scan....

Is this failprogramming of a bot? Do Chinese farmers constantly press V?

I cant imagine this being normal behavior.

My guess is that its some kind of anti afk protection by bots.

scanning will tell you if there are any goodies in the area to consider going after, and the general direction of the objectives as well. I haven't noticed "excessive" scanning by newbs. But gee cut them some slack, its a new game.

I was talking about the newbs in the first room after the Intro.

They are just standing there, doing nothing but scanning.

Quite likely they are bots of some kind. The scanning would keep them from being AFK booted. I don't know what purpose a bot in the tutorial room would serve, but that's probably what it is.

That's where they run player searches and send out spam mails from.

If I hit any key it keeps me from being booted after an inactivity warning... Why would they choose the V key?

Maybe they are just checking out the button functions. Who freakin cares.

What was the first thing you did when you created a Char in STO?

Yea, youve scanned the hell out of the first room about 1000 times, till you take the lift to move on.

    Sounds pretty unlikely.
