C-Store - replace with a new Accolade system

what i'm surprised they didn't do... was - it's a subscription game. So get rid of the money rip off store (really puts off some player base from other games and potentional customers) - hence stupidity.

We all know those fancy preorder items will end up on it in 6 months. (they're really hoarding onto the hardcore star trek fan, money money money) - so obvious it's sickening considering a sub based game.

Mythic, Potbs, Fallen Earth and AoC are begging for players without attempting this type of madness.

Replace it with an improved accolade system (yeah that has no use just now does it), you know the accolades where you get points for various things you explore and do...

make it more like an unlockable system worth points, those points can then be used to unlock cosmetic changes in the C-Store.

More you play, more you unlock.

Makes logical sense captain.

Personally I see nothing with the C-Store. They're not the first company to use some type of "store". Not even the first paid to play tight games. They probably won't be the last. WoW, Coh/Cov, SWG, and I could go on. Might as well get used to it.

And from a business standpoint it makes logical sense.

    Its this simple...

...The C-store on many levels is simply a money making venture outside the game itself designed to encourage a level of diversity within the game but at the expense of real world money.
This explains a simple yet adaptive business model that will in effect allow an income from all subscribers including those with a lifetime subscription.

By increasing the content in the C-Store over time with limited desirable content at an increasingly high expense rate with perhaps a limited time offer to increase demand offers Cryptic a continued income even if every single person in the game decided to buy a life time subscription throughout the lifetime of the game.

its all about the cash, and thats what the C-Store is all about

i actually ask myself what happened to the ingame accolade system.

    http://sto-intel.org/wiki/Accolades << why?

Note: At present in the Open Beta most Accolades have been disabled and thus you will not be seeing progress on them at this time.

Yeah because Mythic doesnt sell any in game items for real cash do they ?

I cant speak for other games but this is the emerging trend, even for subscription games.

Ah but you should also know they still track the progress.

And they are disabled because they wanted to work on the rewards.
Or because the rewards where not functioning correctly... One of those reasons can't remember which it was. :p

i just dont feel that my 500 points will be spent until there are better things to buy than a Klingon or Ferengi playable race... now a ship, that i might actually buy...

there could be so many more options available in the C-Store.. the main one... i would pay 250 points for another character slot, i dont see myself playing on the side of the klingons... now the romulans maybe...

New ships... why cant we have some Vulcan ships or even some other races ships... or maybe they are just being kept in hiding... only releasing as little as possible.

i would even pay 500 points for an improved away team AI...

I agree. Heck Id pay 500 points just for improved AI pathfinding. These maps are really just 2.5D too (no realy variety in the ground maps). Imagine if they had more complex 3D maps ? Forget it.
