Mission Ideas

I'm sure other people have had similar ideas, if not posted already, but I thought I would share some of mine while they are fresh in my mind.

I think the universe needs some static areas with static and roaming mobs. Static areas provide opportunities for people to meet and group together (if they wish to) and provides a sense of community as well as having points of interest.

These areas are areas that Starfleet wouldn't necessarily send you to - that you could just enter because it was there. The area could accommodate maybe 10 - 20 people in it and offer a few missions in the one area.

For example, let's say the static area was System X, a system just inside Federation space next to the Romulan Neutral Zone. The static area consisted of a very large area, with maybe 4 planets, an asteroid belt and the sun. You could fly anywhere you wished to inside of this area.
  • There could be some Romulans hanging around the second planet (static and roaming) - perhaps they were interested in massive amounts of decalithium deposits on the planet's surface.
  • There could be a distress beacon coming from the asteroid field - perhaps an alien race that got into some trouble with the Romulans.
  • There could be a flagship that requires cooperation of a team of people to defeat with associated rewards - perhaps it is in orbit of the fourth planet, that coincidentally has an alien population on the surface.
  • There could also be branching missions - for example, you could try to find a diplomatic solution to the intrusion of Romulans into this system or you could just pew pew them away.
  • There could be some points of interest: anomalies, artifacts and things strewn through the system. You could reward people for exploring and finding these things somehow.

If you built in some consequences for a future mission it could become very interesting - for example, you could escort a diplomat into Romulan space... if you had chosen the diplomatic solution earlier, it could elevate your chances of a successful conference. If you pew pew'd they would recognise your starship and it would make things more difficult for you (but not impossible).

Just needed to write it down before I forgot ;)

Hey, what about some of these ideas for story lines:

    - A race has just achieved warp capability and the diplomatic core is ready to review admission into the federation, but someone is trying to sabotage the process?

-or what about the organians? They were such a major influence towards keeping the federation and klingons from tearing each other apart. Maybe they have ben wanting to make an effort to interfere with the spiraling galactic events again, but have been distracted or hindered by some force? You can make a few missions out of helping the organians with this problem. The beauty would be that you don't have to have the organians immediately able to use their powers. You could say that they must have time to rebuild and someday in the future their powers would be strong enough to help enforce peace.
