suggestion for a skill respec

Hi,

I've played SWG for a long time (and still play it), and i remember when i was skill based like STO is atm. I understand that it is really hard for a skill-based game to allow respec of skils boxes and I only wanted to point out what SWG (star wars galaxies) was allowing us to do 6 years ago.

It was skill based just like STO is atm.

You could switch from one profession to another by dropping skill boxes already learned and by re-grinding the skill points necessary to grind up your new box. Let me give you an example :

consider this tree completed :

A-A1-A2-A3-A4-A5
B
C

You want to learn the C branch but you maxed your skill points available. You then have to drop you A5 Box. so you now have less than the maximum skill points available and you can go grind a little to make more skill points to be able to learn the first C box.

A-A1-A2-A3-A4
B
C-C1

and if you want to continue to learn the C branch, you have to gradually drop all the A boxes. But you don't want to drop them all because you have to re-grind all the necessary skill points for the C branch so you don't want to drop too many levels.

In star wars galaxies, this system was really fun because it permitted a player to switch professions or skill trees without losing too many levels. Plus, it has the really big advantage to keep the player in the game even after completing the maximum levels because they always wanted to try something new.

i'm not sure i explained really well, but you can still try this system on swgemu.com (which is the old version of swg).

As a few others have posted, the general concensus leans toward wanting to be able to reset all your skills and re-allocate them to your preference, click to accept the new skills and then a final confirmation box. All for a hefty, but reasonable amount of Merits or Energy Credits.
