STO + Combat

OK, we all know that many here consider STO to not be Trekkie enough. Here's two things to consider.

1: This is a new game. Newly off the shelves not even a month old. The game was rushed out. I don't think that anybody can argue that fact. Whose fault it was doesn't really matter anymore. It's done, it's out, it's over with, get over it.

2: The time period that we're set in for this game.

It is a time where the Romulan home planet has been destroyed by a nova. They are doing what ever that they can to rebuild their Empire. (let's face it the Romulan's have never really been good guys to begin with.) So naturally we're going to expect to get into fights with them. I'll grant you that in the episodes, shows, movies, what ever, all the various captains have always tried to avoid a fight. But you have to admit that was when the Romulan's still had a home world.

The Undine are trying to destroy everything that they perceive as a threat, which pretty much includes everything in this galaxy. The Klingons see this threat and are willing to do whatever they think is necessary to get rid of the Undine. This has caused friction between the Klingons and the Federation. In short, because of the Undine, the Federation and the Klingons are now in a war against each other. No it's not a cold war, it is a war, period.

And then there is the Borg. Well, they just want to assimilate everybody. (for all we know even Tribble's!)

Now,

Considering 1 and 2, do see why there is so much killing and less negotiation in this game?

I am sure that in time more content will come out which will add in all the other aspects that make the Star Trek Universe, Star Trek. The diplomacy skills, better crafting, more than likely even mod's for the starships.

Because of the uniqueness and history of Star Trek compared to other MMO's this game has the potential to become more than any other MMO out there. Just look and compare. Not even the Star Wars movies had near the depths that Star Trek has. And I expect that it will if given half a chance. But something as big as Star Trek is cannot be done overnight it's going to take time. Patience is the key word here.

There will no doubt be those of you who will disagree with being patient. That think that everything should have been done before release. In a perfect world this would be true, but, we do not live in a perfect world, we live in this world. Imperfection is the way of life, no matter how distasteful. Don't believe me? Then go ahead and challenged me, I'd bet that I could find something wrong with anything.
