We've seen all the threads from the "Lifers" lets be honest though, their money isn't going to contribute towards the future development of the game, so everyone whos paying monthly sign here, we're the real investors and its our money thats going to make this game a succes
Exactly! Pay more now to save a lot more later. I figured that I paid around $1000 into monthly subscriptions into WoW alone, and another $700-800 for UO. It was a no-brainer to pay $230 for STO.
Also you should be more careful when lableing a group because of a minority within that group (this goes for any groups, it's all-encompasing really). I never wanted anything the loud-mouth lifers wanted, yet you automatically include me in the way you present this topic. Ah well, if that's how you want to go about it by all means do it.
I'm a "lifer" and I got away with the game I've been wanting since 1995 and will play until the servers are shut down permanently for cheap, and I want nothing special in return.
[edit]
Actually I take that back. I do want people who pay monthly fees to continue to do so that way my short term investment is drawn out longer and made better. I know it sounds like a jerk thing to say, but it's the honest truth. I'm no better than the next person playing the game nor they me. I just happened to have the ability to pay for the lifetime subscription is all, which was the best option for me (it may not have been for others).

OP, as a lifer, I would like to apologize for the actions of the minority of lifers who feel they're somehow better than the rest, or feel they deserve more stuff just because they're lifers. I know I don't, but then again, I know what I paid for. Given that so many were canceling their LTS because their Borg Captain wasn't available on launch day (we had to wait a whole seven hours - MY GOD!), I'm guessing the LL's (Lifer Loudmouths) didn't.
calling you a lifer isn't a derogatory term unless you make it one, fact is if i pay monthly for the continued life of the game i'd of invested more money into the game than you
cryptic rely more on monthly subscriptions to keep the game alive than lifetime subscriptions, if every monthly subcriber quit then the game would end

Really? So, $240 (equivalent to 16 months of a monthly sub) isn't going to pay for any future development? Most of the monthly subscribers won't even be playing for 16 months. Put the crack pipe down, son.

This is only true after the 16 month mark. Yes, if the game lasts longer than that, you will have contributed more throughout the life of it, but I'd be surprised to hear a lot of monthly subbers admit that they plan to play for longer than that.

if the game only lasts 16 months then your right
what ithink is the life time subs have paid off their debts, the monthly subs will help contribute to keep the game alivie

I hope they will, but yeah, odds are they might not be. Ah well. I, too, know what I was buying. It wasn't a borg and extra character slots that's for sure. hehe

You only invest more if you keep paying for 17 months.
Monthly, only cause I got burned with hellgate london lifetime sub.
My understanding was that no one got "burned" with Hellgate: London. The preorder LTS was $150.00. The monthly fee was $10.00. The game lasted 15 months (Oct 31 2007 until Jan 31 2209). $10 x 15 = $150. The Devs made sure the game servers stayed up long enough for everyone to break even; or at least get darn close to it.

tbh the only thing that stopped me from buying a lifetime sub was CO, if they hadnt released that TRIBBLE they would of got alot more money now
