so i've just bought the game online and downloaded like 5 gig which was a pain..
installed the game
started the launcher expecting to be playing right away
and there is a 3.5 gig patch!!

why the f**k wasn't the original download the most up to date version?

plus the conection speed is rubbish its been running 5 hours and i've completed like 19%

come on get your act together and supply retailers with the most uptodate version

i can understand if it was a hard copy i'd purchased but its a frigging download...

You said it in your post. Your connection speed is rubbish. Also I do not have any problems with updates on my end.

Seriously chief the size of the install and the patch should be a good thing. I do not understand the people that complain about the amount of patches or downtime that happens in this game. IMO this game sorely needs all the patches it can get as the game is still sorely lacking in content.

The filesize shown on the patcher isn't how much that needs to be downloaded. It's the total filesize of the files being modified.

There is a Download # shown too which does reflect how much it has downloaded, but it's quite often a bit smaller than it appears.

That your initial download was 5gb, I'm suspecting the vendor you purchased through provided you with the old open beta client for some reason, instead of the release client, and that issue is with your provider.

Try installing World of Warcraft on a new computer from disks and see how many patches you need to download and install.

I agree with the sentiment of your post but it would be nice if they could bundle a few of these smaller patches and release on them some sort of a schedule that we, as players, could get accustomed to. Like, "Oh, it's Patch Friday, what does this weeks patch hold?". This would also give them an opportunity to finalize their release notes and get them out ahead of the patch as opposed to playing catch up with the notes as they normally do.

It'd be nice. But hardly a major deal. In short, patches are good. Patches every other day = frustration.

Thursday is the timeframe for normal patches. Hotfixes will happen as they are needed. Since launch, well they are needed more often than is liked by anyone :).

    1) There ius a lead time for disk stamping and such about about 6-8 weeks. So the client they shipped off to the manufacturer was NOT the last one.

    2) Even if it was, the client has been through a number of stability patches since Headstart and release. That's th 3.5 GB patch.

    3) You DIDN'T have to install from the provided DVD. Usually with any MMO it's a bad idea, as the client in never current.

    4) When you registered yor client key and created a account, you were given a download link to the LATEST CLIENT, even a BitTorrent link. If you're bandwidth-limited, it can kill that limit - but at least you'll be curent fromt eh get-go.

Not much else I can offer you - the problem you mention is pandemic to MMOs that change constantly.

Try setting the Proxy to what best suits your location. Choices are EU/USA and None. To alter the proxy, Enter your password at the launcher and when you see the options in the top left corner, Click it and where it says proxy, change it to one of the choices, Save, Close launcher and restart it. See if its any faster.

I am in UK and I have mine set to None and I have no problems with the Patcher but when everyone is downloading a patch on say patch day :) Then speeds are obviously slower.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the game. Dont listen to all the TRIBBLE on these forums. Play and make up your own mind.

Yes I agree with you. In an ideal world that would be nice however it is not said ideal world. Personally I would like as many patches as they can squeeze in to fill the major gameplay holes that are causing the huge amounts of poor reviews by players and websites alike.

Lack of content = more frustration than patches every other day

    OP.

    Let me get this straight.

Your complaining about downloading 5GB from an online retailer.

Then you complain once downloaded..you had to download another 3.5GB.

So your complaint is...you didn't download the whole 8.5GB in one go, you had to do it in two smaller steps??

The fact is it doesn't matter - you would still have to download the same amount no matter where it comes from.

So I don't understand your complaint.

If your complaining before you have even finished downloading the game, I think your going to be posting a lot of similar ... "complaints" ... as soon as you start playing.

Wait. You just purchased an MMO almost a month after release and you didn't expect a large amount of patching to be involved with the initial installation?

Is this your first MMO or something?
