Neither has a GPU able to run STO in anything other than very low settings. The CPU is ok as is the ram (though more is always better to a point). You may want to think about popping a different vidoe card in, somthing like the NV250 or better still for future games one of the ATI 56xx or 58xx cards as these have full DX11 features for when those games are ready.
Be warned that some of the larger cards won't fit into those cases and the more powerful cards will need a better power supply then the one that either of those PC's will have.
If you're buying a PC, always buy one with the specs suitable. Buy a new PC and then replace the GPU and PSU will break the warranty on the new PC.
Yes you can run ST-Online, with 1024x768 pixels should it run almost ok, I've tried it with my J&W 785G Board with sideport memory but 1600x1200...
Wasn't soo bad, it's playable, but not so much fun.
If you have a Full Profile Case, you should take a look at the HD5770, if you have a low profile case you could take a look at the sparkle GTS250 low profile, wich could get really hot, was up to 95°C in my NSK1480...
Thanks for the answers folks. I'm glad I asked before buying. I was looking at another computer, which had a Nvidia Geforce 9500GT PCI-Express (1 gb) and wanted to make sure that would be ok to play the game or not. Also the processor is a 2.9GHz AMD Athlon II X2 245. I know the system requirements say a dual core Pentium or AMD Athlon X2 3800+ is required to play. I'm familiar with pentiums but not with AMD processors. Is the Athlon II X2 245 adequate to play this? Thanks in advance for your time.
Sorry did I little research on my own into the 9500 GT and came up with that it'll run the game but its not so great. It is a PCI express though so I should be able to replace it right? But my question about the AMD still stands!
The minimum specs are a bit misleading ... I'm running the game fine on my pos box (that's point of sale people ... it's really is the cash register here) and it's only a single core AMD Athlon 64 3200+ w/ 2GB ddr running WinXP.
Admittedly the video card has been upgraded ... to a PCI GeForce 9400GT ... NOT PCI-e ... just plain old PCI (no PCI-e slot in the box)
Game runs at 1280x1024 @ 20-28fps (a little slow for some folks but looks fine to me)
So ... don't feel that you HAVE to have the uber box.
I have a Sony VAIO laptop with an integrated GeForce Go 7600 GT and Core 2 Duo T7200. Runs fine and smooth for me at 1920x1200 with all the basic graphic settings set to speed as apposed to quality. At that resolution it looks nice and crisp even through the graphics are turned down. I can even turn the basic graphical setting up to half way and get away with it most of the time.
At some point i'll play with the advanced options but I'm having to much fun in game!
